just got all my heads back together and gave it a good whiles cranking to get the oil round the engine. When i put all the coil leads back it wont fire up:( it cranks fine, i hear the fuel pump go, it just doesnt fire at all! im not an expert on the engines ignition so its possible i may have a plug wrong somewhere, any ideas?

ive done an ecu diagnostic check and all it comes back with is the detonation sensor circuit which i knew about. If there was a bad connection on the CAS or PTU would it show up on the diagnostic?

Im not too sure how the ECU diag works exactly, but you may have to reset the ECU to wipe the memory storing the error code of the Det Sensor.

i havent sorted the det sensor yet but if theres more than 1 error will they both show up?

also when i turn the ignition on i can press the plug on the CAS and i can hear a click from the top of the engine, could it be a loose connection there?

Do you get code 34 also?

Pull the plug off the cas, give the contacts a light

treatment with fine file.

Try similarly for the det sensor.

sounds daft.... is there any petrol in it?

joke!!!!! but, seriously, take a look at all the obdvious things first. Crank it then take out the plugs and see what you find. If there's petrol there, do a compression test. All an engine needs to run is fuel, air and a spark-prefferably at the same time. Like i said, check the silly stuff first-power to the coils, knackered plugs, oiled/flooded plugs, poor connections on anything, type of petrol and how long it has stood, check spark and plug gaps, etc. If all seems fine, it may be that you will find a very small ammount of petrol (1teaspoon each) tipped directly into the cylinders may give her the first burst she needs after a rebuild. That one nearly always works if there is a spark. Oh, and you didnt say, is it firing at all or just lifeless? If its firing on 1 bank, it may well be cam timing. Also, how flat is the battery/booster pack? After a rebuild, it is easy for a car to get an airlock in the fuel lines and if it turns too slowly this may not be pushed through. All silly stuff, but the usual suspects. HTH. good luck. si. ;)

I tried jumping it off another running car just incase there wasnt enough power in the battery but still not good, it tries to start as it coughs a few times as though its gonna fire up. Its getting fuel up as i checked the pipe from the filter, im gonna checkall the connections and sparks today.

Give us a shout if you need any more help, i'm off today so am able to help for a bit, but hopeing to pick up a nice new zorst for the car sometime today tho!

quick update, took all the plugs out and cleaned em all up. still nothing. took coil 1 off and spark tested it but there was no spark, checked number 2 and there was a spark, number 3 there wasnt, number 4 there was! any ideas??

ptu?

its possible, i took the top connector off and gave that a check and clean and it seemed ok, checked the CAS by taking it out and turning it. It made the clicks and sounded like plenty of fuel was coming up. Ill have to take the other PTU connector out and check that too.

well what a day, thanks mtl for all the help! after lots of fiddling around with various plugs and connectors it finally started to fire up(still not sure why it did!) and it ran ok and started ok for about 10 minutes, but it went a bit lumpy. After wiggling a few injection connectors it seemed to make it better and worse, so we thought it best to turn the car off and clean them all. Now for some reason when it came to starting it again it went back to its original state! so again we check all the plugs etc still nothing. We then tested a few of the coils for sparks, for some reason number 1 and 4 werent sparking then number 1 was then number 4 wasnt! AAAAAHHHHHHHH!! We even tried the PTU from mtl's Z but still nothing, so at the end of it all im back to square one:cry:

AAAAAHHHHHHHH!! why wont it start!!!! lol

Come on people help us out with answers!!!!! PLEASE????

As you had the heads off (how did it all go in the end by the way? think im going to be doing it soon) u might have damaged the wiring harness. They're very brittle due to they're age and the heat they endure, simply bending them could cause a wire to split. You could try checking resistances from places that would take the wiring harness into account if you get my drift...?

Failing that just try swapping parts with some off another z, or have u already done that with mtl?

Good luck.

could it be coil packs? If its intermittent spark on certain cylinders, try swapping the coil packs for that one with another you know works. If the problem moves to that cylinder, you know that it is the fault of the coil pack. HTH. si.

We also tried that and it was the same no matter what pack we used:( im gonna have to test connections between ecu and all the plugs:mad:
