I've been looking for a 300zx for a few weeks now...i've come across two non turbos, cheap..but one has a flatspot and often cuts out and the other starts fine but then "bogs down" and drops oil pressure, then cuts out if you come to a stop and is difficult to start....this is what i've been told..never seen cars yet as one is 230 miles away and the other is 300 miles away from me. Is this a common expensive problem?? Is it something sinister or just something simple? Any help/advice on what to watch out for would be much appreciated guys

Personally I would not want a car which when I get it will need work to get it running. I suggest that you stay away.

 

Why you want a NA? Most people wished they went for a TT after having a NA for a while.

Im from newcastle mate. I would prefer a tt but I've heard the tt's have a tendency to turbo failure...and that a replacement turbo is in the region of £1500....The zx i have my eye on is up for £1700 and it's very tempting as i love the shape of them regardlees of spec...gorgeous!!

to be honest unless you're prepared to do a lot of work yourself you'll be better off saving up and getting a better example. They are that cheap for a reason.

 

Try looking around the 3-4k region for na's and about 5k for a TT i guess.

 

Obviously well cared for mint ones will be worth more.

 

Same as anything really, but these cars can be expensive to maintain so you don't want to buy a plum :slap:

 

Of course you could find yourself a bargain that only needs some simple stuff done to it to get it back to full health ;)

It's also worth buying a good warranty. The dealer I got mine from warrantied it himself, but that was't much good when I travelled 120 miles to but the car.

 

Also if anything does break these are specialist cars so you don't want the average grease monkey working on it.

 

I paid £375 for a 15 month policy from "Private Car Warranties" in SW London. They have already paid for PTU, temp sensor and something else in the sender/sensor area without question.

 

That has already more than paid for itself;)
