Last week i picked up my new z from the kent area,i live in Derby so i had to travel all the way down to the isle of sheppy.Well after i picked it up i was driving my new red z and got lost and ended up on the M25 in heavy traffic stuck for an hour, but felt good with every one admiring the z until the car died after 10 minuets the car would not start and i was vwery angery with the guy who sold it to me,anyway a woman eventualy pulled up next to me(remember trafic was at a standstill any way)she asked if i was ok and if i needed to use her phone i said i would and she hoped from her car to give me the phone, when she handed me the phone she looked in the car and said "take it out of Drive and put it in N" as she said this i new instantly what i had done. The car started right away!!! Hey guys i have never owned a BLOODY AUTO BEFORE so dont laugh ey!

I'm sorry... I can't not laugh smile.gif

I bet you felt about this (presses fingers together) big didn't you wink.gif

The question is.. Why did it die?

And was she nice?

And did you get her phone number wink.gif Lol

BLESS !

CLASS! We've all done it, I'm sure! When I had me Supra Auto. I had a CD player fitted at a dealer, went out to drive the car away, couldn't get it to turn...WTF??? Baffled, went in and asked the guy on the service desk...he asked if it was in gear? Got back to the car and it was in 1st...ha ha, very funny!

Also did it in my Saab Turbo, also at a main dealer. Saab 900's have the ignition down by the gearstick. Mine was a man. but Saab have this quirky locking mechanism on the gearstick instead of a steering lock. You put the car into reverse before taking the key out and it locks the gearstick...well how the hell are you supposed to know that? Bloody Scandics!

Too clever for their own good...LOL!

;-)

P.S. Again mate, why did it die in the 1st place???

Hehe. LOL.

I did this only a couple of weeks ago after fitting my Empeg. Had the car in 1st to make lots of room around the DIN slot. Was trying to think why installing an MP3 player would result in my car not starting smile.gif Now I think about it, I'm bloody glad Autos do this!

Mine also starts in "N" or "P", have also left it in gear when rushing to get some petrol and felt a right pillock as I tried everything including manually disarming the engine immobilizer

Bilky, mine starts in P or N. I've got a mk 2 Z (92 onwards). Is yours pre 92 or early 92?

Andy

Reminds me of when my girlfriend called me when she borrowed the Z.

I drove 15 miles to rescue her after she had the key jammed in the ignition and it wouldn't start...

Only to find she had parked it like a manual - left it in neutral and put the handbrake on.

The key won't come out until it's in park and it wouldn't start either! Doh!
