hi there gents,

i bought the se-nissan twin filter induction kit for my z last year, but i was told that the actual filters are off a toyota hilux??????

not sure how much truth in that but as they dont look very good i am thinking of getting a pair of universal k&n airfilters to replaice them!!

have a look here http://www.knfilters.com/universal/univrndstrt.htm

u need something about the same size of the old one:-

outside dia 127mm ( D )

inside neck dia 70mm ( F )

length 170mm ( FL )

has anyone here done anything like that or have you got any suggestions

cheers guys

Rather bizarrely enough, I was asking similar questions a few months ago! My zed came with the fantastic piece of automotive engineering known as the s.e. nissan maxflow kit already attached (oh, yes! The sarcasm's flowing!) When I came to check my filters (nicely secured over the ducts, aren't they??) I found that they were absolutely knackered! Searched for replacements (s.e. themselves want about 20 quid each for them) at all my local stores (including several branches of Halfords and a Partco) but no-one could turn up anything suitable including from the Hilux range. As there are about 20 billion different filter variations for the Hilux anyway, I think the assistants were glad to get rid of me as quick as poss! I ended up e-mailing k+n and got hold of a couple universal cone filters. I can't remember the part no.s off hand, but have got the details at home (Yep! Unfortunately I get to work till 6am this week!) I know that the bottom of the cone was 127mm, but think mine are slightly shorter than 170mm and are angled at either 10 or 20 degrees! Fitted both to my car (cost about 70 quid) and they look pretty good and are nice and secure. I now also get a nice induction suck (especially if the girlfriend gets flowers beforehand!!) - depending on how loud the stereo is, of course!

Cheers, ta, lovely, Simon:rolleyes:

I was thinking about putting Apexis on a dual pop, as they are a lot smaller than most filters and said to offer the best filtration and power gain.

apexi sound nice do u know if there are any universal types to fit the twin pop??

As far as i know there isn't really, Apexi intakes seem to have a hard rigid base that they use to put the bolts holes in for the various MAF designs, i was only asking Danny this very question the other day cos i fancied changing from the filters i use on my kit below, which yes is very much like the SE one, only it don't split on the seams and fits flat on the MAF ;)

Oh the filters i have been using cost around 50-60 quid and are same build quality and design as Blitz and readily available.

cheers

Hiyu Dewi,

I believe the k+n part no. for the filters that I got is RU3120. Unfortunately I forgot to look today, so I checked on the kn website and I think that's the right no.! The code seems familiar anyway! Filter bottom diameter is 102mm, top diameter is 51mm and length is 152mm. I will confirm that this is/not the right part no. as soon as I remember to check!

Cheers, mate

Simon

hi there simon i have orderd the RU3120 filters but today kame across the k&nwebsite BHP formula

according to K&N a single RU3120 allows 145 BHP

if you use two of them you multiply by a factor of 1.6

so this gives us 145BHP x 1.6 = 232 BHP well below my 380BHP mods

i have e-mailed the shop to tell them this so see what they say when i get a reply,

just thought i would let you know of my findings

Hello there, mate!

Sorry for the late reply, but I've been off work sick for the past 10 days or so! Had about all the daytime TV I can manage for the next 5 years! When I ordered my filters, I e-mailed K+N first, and the guy did ask me several details, including what bhp the car was running (I told him 300), and he mailed me back with those as being suitable! Whether or not he made a mistake, I don't know, but it may be an idea to mail them and see if they come up with the same filter suggestion for you as they did for me? It'd be interesting to see how consistent they are! I certainly don't have any decrease in performance with the filters on my car, but maybe I would have got a better increase if there's something more suitable?? Let me know how you get on, bud, I'm certainly interested!

Cheers,

Simon

Hi

Mine only has a single K & N cone induction kit, even though my car is a n/a, is a single cone suitable?

Thanks

John
