Not having a good day today! Terrible gale force winds last night. My car alarm went off at around 1am this morning. Got up to check, all okay. Got in the car this morning and closed my door and the back window had caved in!!! Got out to find a tile from next door's roof had fallen off in the wind and struck my back window!!!

Anyway, need to get it fixed quick so contacted my insurance (Adrian Flux). £50 excess on the policy for glass and they will cover up to £500. They got National Windscreens to call me and they quoted £697 (5 hour job in the workshop!) for the repair and they informed me the insurance company will only pay £200.

I got this cleared up with AFlux who said they WILL pay £500 (luckyily). Maybe National Windscreens were trying to pull a fast one!

They also can not get the part until Friday. I contacted RAC/Auto Windscreens who are also approved by my insurer and they could do the repair on my driveway tomorrow for £303.15 ALL IN as I am an RAC member. They only have one in stock in the whole country (apparantly!!).

Problem I have is that all the UK glass has a blue tint but my import has brown tint and is not available in the UK.

I rang Nissan to get a price on the JAP glass and they said it was over £300 and will take 4 weeks as they do not stock Jap parts.

Looks like I will have to go for the blue tint now and to top it all off I loose my nice big 300ZX sticker off the back window!!

Q1. Does anyone know where I can get a JAP window from in the UK?

Q2. Is the 300ZX logo an after market sticker or did the cars have them from new?

Q3. Are the 'roadside' replacements as relyable as 5 hours in the workshop?

Cheers guys

Dom

Try AndyZ.

Otherwise I have a spare (UK) tailgate that you could take

the glass from.

unlucky mate!

In that situation shouldn't your neighbours home insurance be picking up the tab?

The main cost in replacing the rear window is in the surrounding fixtures, not the actual glass. It is also far easier to replace the entire tailgate rather than the glass alone and will ultimately work out cheaper too! Try to get a second hand tailgate with J-spec glass from either AndyZ or another breakers. If you're lucky it is in the same colour as your car, if not it'll need a respray which for a tailgate and blending shouldn't be that much of an expense.

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate accident - atleast you didn't get injured like the poor sod outside our building who had a one of those foldable floor display signs blown into him at the cost of his upper leg (paramedics said it looked broken in three places! Ouch!!)

Regards,

just had national windscreens do my front one. Blue tint looks fine but I don't have a bronze tint on my other glass so that's ok.

Took them 2 hours and they did it in the garage in case it rained. Cost - 60 quid excess on insurance .

PS only phoned them up yesterday afternoon

I think it takes the p15s that insurance companies load the insurance for imports claiming that its cos the bits are more expensive, but when it comes to claim time they try amnd fob you off with a uk one.

If theyre gonna do that then they should insure the jsap and uk ones for the same price!!

If mine got bust i'd demand a brown tint one or get them to replace all the glass to match.

Its what we pay premiums fore IMO.

Rant over.;)

Will the glass out of a UK tailgate fit a Jap import?

I ruined my defroster scraping off a tint that had gone wrong. Now I have no defroster, what are my options? If the glass is bonded in, does that rule out removing a glass from another tailgate and fitting it in mine?

A UK glass would be better if it would fit, as I understand the UK ones have the defroster inside the glass instead of stuck on the inside like the Jap ones.

Thanks

John

Dom, try this number 0121 327 8200 (Ask for Dave and mention Zedworld) I know they have a guy who changes the rear window`s on zeds in a couple of hours and they should have a brown tint one in stock, from memory the whole job is a couple hundred quid inc the glass might be + vat though.

Jeff TT

Mate have u ever considered getting ur tailgate changed to the hub version in the z centre you could get the whole job done for about 500 i reckon just a thought.

Ur spending nearly 500 and keeping it standard why dont you pay the same amount and get something changed.

Any excuse to modify something.

Jeff, about the guy you mentioned in Birmingham for window replacement, his prices seem cheap.......if you can ever get him to call you back, he is totally unreliable.

Auto Windscreens came to the house on Thursday and decided not to do the job because it was raining. I had to drive the car 20miles to their depot. Sat there for 2hrs while they fitted the glass. They finished but it did not fit correctly and we couldnlt open my boot!! Dropped it back to them on the Friday morning. They had it ALL day and when I got there around 5pm to pick it up they were just finishing off. Glass fits now but now my rear washer doesn't work. They said it must be faulty as all they did was remove the nozzle and put it back. I explained it worked find before they messed with it but they are not willing to repair it. I am going to complain to the call centre today and see if I can get a repair done at their cost!

How do the rear washers work? I looked at it myself and all the pipes are connected and I can here the motor going but no water!! Is there some sort of valve in the pipes that they could have damaged??

I'm sure there's a check valve in there. The pipes are quite easy to remove by mistake but I'm sure you can get to them by removing the trim.

I acted too hastily judging the guy in Birmingham that Jeff mentioned who fits windscreans. I finally got an appointment yesterday to have my tailgate windscreen replaced. Dave's buddy did a super job, fitted it in an hour - only£100 all in.

Fantastic.
