Decided to have a go at fixing my peeling dash today, so removed my defroster guides, glued it up nicely and then when trying to wedge it down I slipped and cracked the windscreen!!!

Ohh well, insurance co have sorted another one out and they're coming tomorrow. It's a UK one but don't really care.

 Oh noooooooo! What were you using to wedge it down.....an anvil?

Its still driveable though?

yup it's driveable, cracks going in four directions, about the size of my hand end to end.

Still at least it's only 60 quid through the insurance, and I might as well get it sorted sooner than later.

Oh yeah, I was using a large piece of wood that was lying around and looked like it was just the right size. Turned out to be too big and slipped as i was trying to wedge it in. :(

I cracked mine with a kayak a few weeks ago.

You'll be surprised how different the tints are on UK and Japanese cars once you have a mixture and can compare the two. I think the night visibility is a bit better with the UK windscreen though.

I was told a Japanese spec (i.e. bronze) windscreen would cost well over £1000 and there would be a wait of a few weeks and possibly months. I couldn't be bothered waiting, so I just agreed to have a UK spec one too.

I can understand the windscreen costing over £1000 for a Jap one. First it will have to be bought in Japan and they cost about the same as they do here, and then shipping for a very heavy large item which will have to be handled very very carfully. And then the TAX and Import duty on it all.

You do know the UK one has a blue tint and all the J spec ones have a brown tint dont you?

Hi Mate,

I'm going to do mine as soon as I get the car back, you can buy very small clips from maplins mate, These are what I was going to use.

not too worried about the tint as all my current glass is tint-less.... if that makes any sense, just a small strip on the top of the windscreen.

Stu - what do you mean by clips?? roles of tint

I'll let you guys know what I think when they put the new one on tomorrow;)

Really? I couldn't see the tint on mine until I got the new windscreen either. Now it seems it was fairly obviously bronze.

new screen on, took them 2 hours in the end. New one is a definate blue tint and I quite like it. Much darker strip at the top too.

Old one had no tint and small strip. Thankfully all the other glass in plain too so it doesn't look out of place.

Now, do you reckon I could get the insurance co to change my door glass as they are both covered in long scratches ;) ;) :D

You probably could but if you claim for more than one window in a 6 month period it effects youe NCB.

When I say clips mate I meant the small grips to hold the dash in place after gluing.
