Having seen the current prices of Zeds online and in autotrader i'm wondering whether it's better for me finacially to break my Zed or sell it.

It requires the oil pump replacing due to it's casting being damaged by a garage trying to prise off the pulley. It also requires a full set of locks. (No key for the drivers door.)

It has a little bit of the obligatory bubbling under the rear spoiler.

It is a 1990 black import twinturbo, with 45000 miles on the clock. I rebuilt the engine fully after it popped a head gasket two years ago. (used the original turbos.) It has a super megaphone exhaust and a HKS intake. Oh, not a spot of rust either!

I converted it to a manual a year ago due to the autobox lunching itself.

I'm completely in two minds regarding this issue, as it'd be a lovely car for someone technically inclinded to sort out the issues, but is it worth more in bits?

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Ben.

Hi Ben

thought I would jump in with two feet!

Seems very drastic measure for an oil pump & locks to scrap a Z!

I take it you have ask for prices on these & of course the people who can REALLY help, like this forum?

A tough choice to make if you know the money aspect of getting these things fixed.

Good luck mate.

Hi Arthur,

Basically I need the cash for it. Putting all the hard work and sweat that i've put into the thing aside. I'm trying to find out the best course of action.

Of course it's a great car to the right person.

How much do you reckon i'd get for it all in one piece?

Is it the very rare quad cam one???

Quite a strange sense of humour.....

There was a link to one for sale on Ebay up here the other day. It was claiming to be a "rare quad-cam version". That's all Rossy's joking about.

Hi Ben

Im not the one to say how much you would get for it whole or in bits.

If you do brake it up the vultures will swoop!

I would also contact Andy for his advice,

you had better make a good list of things before you do it!

C'mon Ben admit to the group what you're thinking of buying instead - Judas!! LMAO!

This is a decent nick car, if anyone wants one that's a not too difficult repair for reasonable money you should make Ben an offer.

IMHO it'll be worth a lot more as spares as most of it is in excellent nick and Ben knows how to remove parts without use of a hacksaw...

Cheers!

PS - sorry you're still thinking about it mate but put my name on those bits we talked about...

Ben,

Zed prices do seem very low on e-bay etc... but contrast that with what you can pay for one in top nick!!

Yes, you can buy one for £2,000 or so off ebay, but I assure you if you did it would be a tatty peice of s***e with a lot more to spend putting it right than your car sounds to need.

If you want a minter, with no faults etc... you would be looking at £5,000 or more for a 91 or so....

Your spoiler will cost about £300 to replace and paint (mine did) fitting it yourself or another £125 or so to pay someone to fit it if you're not inclined to do it.

As for the oil pump, I don't know, but I'm sure someone on here will be able to give you an approx. cost.

If you know some t**t in a garage did this damage, can you not insist they pay for the repair!!!???

If the car is otherwise in good order, I'd keep it, and get it right, after all if you do sell/break it cheaply, your still going to have to find £5k for a replacement good one!! and anything you get will still need some money spending on it!!

Oh.... and if you can't source a decent lock set seconhand off one of the traders here.... why not fit remote central locking, costs about £50 for the module, £10 for drivers door actuator (and labour for an alarm fitter if your not technically minded) and then you only need a key for the ignition!!!

Paul N

I've got one aswell, blown headgasket tt, what's the score? u say u rebuilt ur engine after this happened, what else would be gone on the car due to this. One more thing is it worth getting repaired or shall i break it? help would be very much appreciated as noone seems to want it even for 1500 quid! considering other than this the car is spotless (i really do mean that).

Hi zxc!

Trouble with Zs is the work needing doing is very labour intensive!

There aint no room, the engine massive, engine bay small!

Head gaskets do not tend to cause big problems like a big end going causing metal to be cast to every corner of the workings!

Put another message up askin for help, get a quote on how much it is going to cost. what u can do & what u cannot!

Then take it from there! lol
