Evening all :)

Went to Santa Pod today and had mixed results...

First run - something badly wrong :S Half way through 2nd gear the revs shot up and it felt like the clutch was slipping big time. No pull on the car at all from 60mph :( Trickled through in 17.06s @ 58mph  I actually decelerately from half way.

Driving back to the carpark the car felt v odd, still not biting properly. I shut down, checking for fluid loss, smells etc - nothing. Pulled the pass footplate up and fiddled with the Autobox ECU connectors, pushing them together. Car ran better and felt normal after that so I had another run...also thought maybe the power selection had something to do with it - I hadn't clicked power on since the new chip went in

Second run - Felt loads better, used o/drive off but not "power", well until 3/4 of the way went it felt like it hit some sort of limited, I backed off then applied power again and finished fine  14.36s @ 95.4mph Had my numberplate removed for this run.

Right, now the problem definately felt ECU related so I unscrewed the autobox ECU and ALC, checked all the pins, and refitted.

Third run Sweeeet! :D Ran with numberplate back on, o/drive off and no power button again. Killed an M3 and finished with 13.517s @ 106.23mph :D:D Well chuffed.

Wasn't a perfect run either, bit of wheelspin changing to 2nd and a slowish start, so I'm sure it can be improved :)

Hopefully it was a dodgy ECU connection which was throwing up the gremlins. I'll try booting it with "power" on at some point - but can this interfere with the chip?? The revs rose and rose but no acceleration? Very odd.

Happy ending though ;)

Cheers

Pete

Well done mate - It must be the new wheels that helped. ;)

How much is it for a day at Pod?

What mods do you have to get 13.5?

  • Author

Stu - £10 to get in per person (not car  ) and £15 for unlimited runs. It was the busiest I've ever seen it today - doubt anyone got more then 5 runs.

Mods to do with power ;) - Quad Mongoose exhausts, SS decat pipes, Stillen intake, ALC, JD Custom chip, boost jets - running 12psi.

"Mods" LOL to do with mass reduction ;) I removed the spare wheel and had just enough petrol to get me to the BP garage on the A45 on the way home :D

Actually about that, when I took out the whole of the rear interior, I found the car was too light at the back as I would wheel spin very very easily.

Hmm you may have a point there, I remember hearing a capri owner mentioning putting sandbags in the boot once to keep the grip on the rears

Dunno whether the reduced mass or the extra grip would be preferable?

Cos - yep the new wheels were clearly the main improvement :D

Wider tyres will help a lot as you can get more power down with out spinning them.

Getting rid of MASS in the front of the car would be helpful. I hear the engine bay is very heavy. Get rid of it. ;)

Or put sand bags in the book but jettison them when you are finished with 1st gear?

Stuart :D

Well done pete, Youve proved nelson right then, god help us all now!!!;)

How can it proove Nelson right as some drivers put more weight in the rear of the car to make it go better?

Nice one mate!
