I've been having a problem with my clutch for ages now, after driving throughout the day the biting point moves out towards you until it will start slipping.

The next day it will be fine and again gets worse as the day goes on.

First thing i did was to fit a nice RPS jobby of smithy's. Helped a little but problem still there.

I read about a problem with the earlier master cylinders causing this so i got a new one from MJP. Again this made no difference at all.

What could be causing this? It baffles me. Any loss of fluid would give difficulty changing gear not slipping.

Ideas??

the slave cylinder located on the gearbox, could be that it's bypassing the seals.....

Not to expensive either I think, besides what you've done I don't think theres much else if anything that would account for the slipping.....:slap: ;)

Yea i probably will order a new one, just i dont physically understand how the slave could cause this problem. All it is is a little rod that gets pushed by the fluid. If the seals are nackered then it would have the opposite effect.

Somehow pressure builds up between the slave and master...

I thought this could happen if you still had air in the system............................

Yes i wondered that, have a little air and u need to press the pedal further, but u can compensate for that by adjusting the pedal (have done this many times).

Then as u use the car the air gets hotter and expands, building up pressure making it easier to slip.

I've bled it lots of times to make sure though.

100% Deffo air in the lines - absolute bitch to bleed the clutches on these cars. Don't use an easy bleed or anything - just back the nipple off until fluid comes out and use your thumb to block it off. As you press the clutch, you'll feel the air bubbles squeezing out in the fluid - WATCH YOUR EYES!!!!! Another thing to make sure is that the clutch is fully adjusted out (to give maximum travel to master cylinder) otherwise you won't clear all of the air. Don't forget to keep an eye on the reservoir as you do it too ;)

 If you have a stage 3 RPS you may also need the RPS uprated slave, phone RPS in the states and they will probably send you one for free.

Jez, new slaves come with the kits at this level 3 as part of the kit, well at least they do in the ones i supply :D Robtor's isn't that higher level.

cheers bud

smithy

What is the stage 3 called? Is it the street racer. 450BHP rating?

"slaves come with the kits"... mine didn't for some reason. :(

Ffs fitted a newslave over the weekend and it's still got the same problem. New clutch assembly, master cylinder and slave

cylinder have all been done and ive bled it and bled it to make sure there's no air.

It's not quite as bad as it was but if i get cought it traffic and use the clutch alot it wont be long before it starts slipping.

grr... stupid thing. Was gunna go to brighton today but i didnt bother as i knew id have to get the aa out not being able to move with that shite clutch...

WHY LORD WHY!!!

Just to bake everyones noodle!! Mine goes the other way, when stuck in traffic mine heats up and engages right at the floor making gear changes tedious.

Robtor: If you are convinced that you have blead your system perhaps you should try adjusting the clutch leaver out a bit. Also I (dunno what year your moter is) but wasn't there a recall or mod on clutch master cylinder components because of this problem? I have late 92 model Zed and reasonable pedal play in the clutch if yours is tight from the top, maybee it's over adjusted, re-adjust to give a little play in the pedal.

Unless anyone else dissagreas?

Do a search theres loadsa stuff about clutches on here & ttnet.

I too have clutch problems

The clutch only slips when accelerating very hard off the line with high revs, you can put into gear but it just revs..back off the power and change gear and its fine!!?? it seems to be when i release the clutch with high revs on because any other time its fine and doesnt slip at all

Any ideas??

I have spoken to several people to ask if the clutch is toast but everyone seems to think it wont be the clutch, might be some oil getting onto the plate??

Any ideas would be helpful as i cant get my 0-60 time below 5.5 secs ;)

I had this problem when I was running a standard clutch and higher boost. This problem disappeared once I put the RPS jobbie on.
