Anyone know if Jap TT's are supposed to have AIV valves. If mine has, I'm buggered if I can find them !

Aren't these one of the thingy bobs that Nissan did away with at a certain year of manufacture? Could be barking up the wrong tree!

The AIV valves are in the rear of the wheel arch i think:

Have a look cause I'm not sure if Import spec have them(UK do).

I fixed the dreaded gurgling AIV problem on mine at the weekend. Take off the drivers front wheel and remove the mudguard at the back of the arch (the drivers door end).

The mudguard is held on with 3 screws at the arch lip and 3 or so poppers into the metal work. The AIV sits cleanly out of the way behind here and that's why you can hear the bloody thing gurgling when the drivers door is open. The pipe is clamped to the base of it with a circlip. Remove this and the water will fall out. Job done.

What purpose do these serve then? Apart from gurgling and holding water that you need to get rid of...WTF is that all about?

The purpose is to inject air into the cats to reduce emmisions levels at idle. Basically make it legal. Bit of a con really - same amount of pollutants, just more dilute !

From the descroption of where they are, mine dosen't have them. Think it must be the carbon cannister making the noise.

Nissan did away with them on 93 models and onward I believe... Just FYI

Could it be late '92 then ?

Mine is a late model with the different trim. Maybe they discontinued them at the same time ??

Yep - could well be that they went out with the MkII's..

I think Nissan discovered that they were simply a major PITA and water trap!

You can drill a hole to cure the problem, see the tech section on AIVs on tt.net.

Or I assume the JWT chip also cures it by disabling the air going to the cats, incase you want to remove them

92+ have the suede trim; 93+ do not have the air injection valves.
