After the discussion about pinking last week I took my car back to se nissan where they told me that it was not too much to worry about cos it was only doing a little, so they just adjusted the timing on the engine. Would this not surely slow it down? I thought they would have modifided the chip itself. Does the timing need adjusting when fitting a jwt chip if so anyone know by how much. Take care dudes. Paul.

Timing can be adjusted via the crank angle sensor. You don't have to go into the EPROM unit for the adjustment.

If you retarded the timing, yes, power goes down slightly.

If the timing was originally over 15 then fine, it needed changing.

If they set your timing much below 15deg then you will loose power and it's probably not the correct cure to the problem.

JWT alters a host of parameter that help prevent detination, but wont cure a problem.
