I need a new front wheel bearing. Where would be the best place to get one from? I was thinking that nissan might be a bit expensive for a change!

Thanks,

Stuart.

i wasn't going to go for second hand wheel bearings! Its just i didn't fancy paying nissan prices!

Im in the same boat as you, mines knackered, dried out and squeaks like an old bed after about 5 miles driving (if that). Its going into Zedworld to be done soon for under 100 notes all in, about £40 for the part the rest for fitting.

I know if I do it myself im likeley to break something, like I did to a calliper not so long ago (took it apart, cleaned all the pistons, seals etc, worked great, then buggered the thread putting it back on!!!), so now i leave it to the pro's!!!

i know the feeling;) It's not that tho....usually i enjoy repairing the Zed myself, but for some reason i'm a lazy t*at at the moment and can't be arsed:rolleyes:

It would pay to shop around the motor factors for wheel bearings, I have recently replaced a front and rear one, the front was 30 quid , the rear 80 quid as it includes the carrier too, and both were good makes (SKF I think).

John

Did you replace because it was totally worn out with play and noise?

I have an uncurable wheel balance problem and am beginning to wonder if the bearings on one or both side are worn a bit. Cant feel any play or roughness though.

Its not too bad but annoys me at high cruising speeds.

Willie

I replaced the bearings as I have a rumbling noise like a dry bearing on my 300 above 35 mph...the noise increases with speed but sounded like NSF with one of my workmates, then after i replaced the NSF ....NSR was where it sounded like the noise was coming from...after replacing NSR.......aaaaaaaaaahhh ffs noise still there.....i actually think its the prop centrebearing but I have just mooved work so i havent got time to jack it up and run the car.

Willie,

The front one I used the press ....the back one the bearing comes with a carrier that bolts onto the back of the car....i had to use a press to locate the hub in the bearing but actually wasnt too bad a job....the front one was more of a job....oops and i had to run a weld on the old parts of the track to get them off as they were really tight...amazin what a bit of heat does.

Also willie i never went near nissan for prices of bearings but got them from motor factor..the rear bearing being more expensive...

Cheers and hth...john crisp
