are the stock air filters in a zed readily available anywhere? had a look in halfords and of course they aren't listed. Was wondering if they are used in any other nissans?

cheers

They are listed in the Halfords book. Check at the end of the NIssan list in the book and I think Halfords put the car with numbers as names at the back.

I found that Halfords ones didnt fit very well and ended up cutting away some of the foam surrounding to make it fit.

If its a toss up of saving a few quid and getting Halfords filters and having to cut them down or spending a few quid more and get Nissan ones which fit correctly, I would go to Nissan. I am sure the filter is used in the 200SX and a number of other cars.

Dont forget you need 2 filters for the 300ZX. When you can afford it buy an induction kit and they claim to last for 1,000,000 miles as you can keep cleaning them with water. After about 5 years you would have saved money from changing the paper filters.

Halfords ones are a poor fit, the Wix (QH) ones are a good fit and the standard is at least equal to nissan ones.

The part no is WA6609 and they will retail at around £7 or £8 each, these should be available at most motor factors.

Heres a pic of some fitted, probably no use at all but it ups the post count!!!;)

I thought you would have had an induction installed.

My only mod is a razo gearnob!!!

I work slowly, the exhaust should go on soon so dare say induction will follow!!;)

cheers,

I will try to hunt out some of the Wix ones tomorrow. Think the induction kit will have to wait for another day. Too many things to fettle first!

does anyone know anywhere that stocks these Wix filters in the North East? I'm busy ringing round but so far have only tracked down some unipart ones for ~30 quid for the pair

WTF??? I checked them out at work today they RETAIL at £8.99 each, if youve got a "Motormania" store near you they can get them for you within a couple of days if they havent got them in stock.

99% of motor factors can get hold of wix filters, if they are telling you otherwise its probably them trying to fleece you into paying more for higher priced ones.

As a rule if they have either QH or moprod stuff in stock they can get wix, as its all the same firm and all comes out of the same warehouse!!!

I got mine from Nissan in M'Bro. Next day, but a little more than the Halfords price (I think about £25 for two). The Halfords ones didn't fit (after hours of thinking it was me!) - I didn't bugger them about, just rewrapped, went back and moaned, and got my money back. The Nissan ones went straight in (just managed to drop the filter housing bolt into the radiator bay, but thats another story!!)

Yep, Halford's filters are cr*p! Like SRAE, I cut the foam away on mine - still wasn't happy with them and sacked them off after a week for a Blitz SUS ;) - never needs replacing or cleaning (allegedly!). I remember at the time someone telling me that Halfords filters fitted their airbox perfectly - maybe a Jap/UK thing (??)

Why not do a write up with pictures, describing how to change stock air filters? Nice and easy and you stand the chance of winning half/full years subscription to the site ;) Requirements for a write up are:

1) Tools required

2) Rough time to complete

3) Any materials required, if nissan parts try to include part numbers

4) A detailed step by step description of how to complete the job along with pictures for illustration where needed.

You also get your name up in lights at blackpool illuminations :D Ok that was a joke....

well, I finally ended up ordering a pair from Motorworld because they only wanted a tenner each and said I would be able to have them that afternoon. Unfortunately they only managed to get one in so I will have to wait till Saturday now. I'll feedback on the brand and the fit.

I was going to keep the car stock but a nice induction kit... it might be rude not to ;)

David

I'll say it again, but if you are buying genuine Nissan parts dont go to the main dealer as they'll rip you for big bucks.

Get in touch with Mike Feeney, he's int he traders area, and he'll do genuine Nissan parts but at a much cheaper price.

And no I aint on commision from him (hmmm starts thinking) but he's a nice bloke and I have used him a lot in the past and will contuniue to do so in the future.

Hope thats of some use.

Nick

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!

David,

Good luck with your new panel filters. When you decide it is time to treat your car to a proper induction kit please consider our A'PEXi PowerFlow induction kits, £120 all in and available from our website at http://www.dta-motorsport.co.uk.

General note to everyone:

It is best to buy stock Nissan filters (through MJP if so desired) as non-Nissan ones may have different filter attributes and flow-through rates. We all know what the effect of clogged filters is on engine/performance so why risk fitting incorrect filters.

is anyone running the K&N replacement panels? any views on these?

cheers

David

Mine was running K&N panel filters but I fitted a K&N induction kit type filter. Definite performance advantage. The (innacurate I know) boost guage goes a little bit higher than it did.

I think the standard air box can be part of the limit on air flow.

K&N panel filters possibly good for 3 or 4bhp and an intake kit around 10-15. US Stillen site claims 18!

Cheers Willieo. I have ordered a set of K&N panels from Revolution in Gateshead. I was getting sick of clarting around trying to get normal filters (motorworld managed to order the wrong one!!) Was planning on keeping the car stock but will look forward to the slight performance boost :) I imagine I might see quite a big boost over the filthy black messes of filters it has in at the moment!

They are about 38 quid each!! Wish I had spoken to you before I paid for them :( I thought for a bit that price was for the pair but that would have been too lucky! Sure you will find someone to take them off you hands tho

For only another 40 squid you could of got the Apexi system... :slap:
