Ideas are being banded about at the moment but hows this for another one?

Anybody who makes a major contribution to the site (writes an FAQ, does some major work on the site etc) gets either 1/2 year or full year subscription FOC?

This sounds like I'm trying to play the ball in my own court but thats certainly not the case. I'm trying to move this place forward before we lose something important - like its members. I think if someone is prepared to put in a lot of their own personal time to help the members of this site out, they should be rewarded.

Hows about it guys? It will also encourage people to put something into the place.

CheerZ,

Andy

Sounds like a good idea and should motivate people more.

For some tech adive (with pictures ;)) you could save hundreds of pounds for various members for the cost of £10 to the author of the tech item.

Now what could I do for a free year...............

 nah........

Kit Kat Pants......now there's an idea.... :D

But the tutu suited you....

Sounds good to me. Would motivate people to become more active in the site and would help encourage people to stay.

Harmony AT LAST!!! Carefull peeps, people visiting this forum might get the wrong idea and think we're actually nice people :D

I remember you touching on this before Andy, it was a good idea then and it still is now.

I'm thinking an area we can upload to, with write ups and pics of jobs we've done. Between us we must have taken on alot of work and jobs on our 300's, with photo's I expect. This could grow and grow as people add to it. You may have the same task repeated but it maybe a different method, so that would be good, one with better pics - the other with a better write up maybe.

HEATER MATRIX

PCV VALVES

AII

ETC

ETC........that kinda thing. As you click on it, it could open up to who has submitted reports on that particular job. I know we have AndyP's site, but this would be OUR help section, done by US, with the oppportunity to pm or email the person who did the write up and say "how did you manage to get that bit there into that gap" etc.

I really like this idea, it just needs someone to set up a section and I would be typing away and uploading the jobs I have done to date for sure.

Great idea - this SHOULD be done IMHO  :duffer:

I was serious!

Andy would be an excellent person to create, collate and filter the information. So, give him a managing role and a voice.

This is meant in no way as a slur on Andy Pingram (as he is Club Technical Officer), his site is an excellent source of information, and no one can dispute his knowledge of 'our' cars, but he doesn't seem to be on-line very much recently, and Duff has opened his gob!

I might even reconsider my subscription if this place starts moving in the right direction and shows signs of recoving for the gutter that it's been in for the past few months.

Tim

Sounds good, I can a do a technical article on how the Supra is far superior to the 300:rofl:

I'd have no problem with that as I really don't have time to do all this stuff at the moment (as you can see from the last time my web site was updated). Just being Admin without really doing any Mod stuff is sucking up time I don't have.

I had originally planned a read only Tech forum in order to capture all the useful info that gets posted here, (like a vote to FAQ in effect), but AndrewG wanted to focus on the other upgrades first, which I did. So now might be agood time to revisit this or put forward alternative suggestions.

why has it got to be available to everyone would this just not encourage freeloading

got to say I would pay £20 a year for Andy's site , it has saved me a fortune over the past year

I just think it should be.

This is a site surely primarily to help people. I don't think we should get too much into charging people, if we can possibly help it. I always have been in favour of limiting the amount of posts for 'freeloaders' with the confidence that they will subscribe when they see what a great place it is.

Just my own opinion of course.

It does, dunnit? :(

I don't think a read-only forum which we move threads into is a good idea - the information is very disjointed that way. What we need is a summariser who can turn a long and rambling discussion into a short, sharp, useful summary covering all the pertinent info. That's what Andy and I are volunteering to do.

Obviously we will need somewhere here we can PUT the summaries - so that's where you (hopefully) come in.

Wherever we put them, we'd need to be able to:

* include piccies

* go back and edit them in place if someone makes a new and compelling discovery on a topic that's already covered

* Search the area for keywords

* ...and preferably have access for the editors themselves to do all the above

Sound good?

In principle yes, but there are limitations to what we can do with this forum s/w. I had intended to keep it simple - just create categories within a read-only forum and then copy relevent posts into each area as they turned up. This way we keep all the useful info in one place which saves tons of searches and duplication. Downside is that the onus is on the mods/admin to move the posts.

To make it more formal and professional would be fantastic but I was unable to commit that much time, not to mention that my web design skills are, um, limited to say the least.

So, any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks. But thanks are also due to Mike Groves as he hosts it for free. Without whom .... etc etc

Also, just to be absolutely honest, there is very little real content on my site, it's primarily a directory to resources hosted elsewhere.
