Just been informed that if the engine is not running the brakes may not work, is this true ?

Any other main reasons I shouldn't tow my car to SE (if the first one above isn't enough) ?

you will have brakes just ypu will have to press MUCH harder as the servo assist will not be working

Take the plugs out and leave it in gear while being towed LOL :D:D:D:D

Can't you just tow it a mile or so, and get the AA/RAC to do the rest? If your not in, you may still know someone who is and is covered "any car". And even if you have to join its bound to give you peace of mind, and in any case could come in useful at a later date (if you know what I mean!)

Brakes won't work properly without engine running.

Better to have front-end lifted tow or, better still, on low-loader.

That is like understatement of the decade -you'll break the seat mountings before the brakes work enough to stop the car !!!!

.....and if you took the plugs out the vacuum would come from where exactly???? :p

Not only will you need big muscles to work the brakes the steering will be something else as well with no power assistance at low speed.

Try turning off the engine while going slowly on a private road to get an idea of the effect! Dont pull the key out to apply the steering lock ffs.

Fook me I'm glad I asked LMAO !!!.

I did think of the steering being a little stiffer but I think after all these very interesting posts for which I am very greatful. I'm gonna go for the flat bed !.

I'll check with my RAC cover tonight to see what coverage I have got.

Thanks guys !

Well James300 told me I would have no brakes to start with but I thought I'd double check on here first. I shouldn't have doubted you mate :D.

Anyway thanks for arranging to sort me out a flat bed James I owe you one mate.

Won't the AA/RAC smell a rat when they turn up to a "stone cold" engine that has allegedly just 'conked out' ;)

Dave

The police towed my Fiesta Auto a mile or so off the M6 cos I was "an obstruction" :D:D when I broke down - the autobox stank afterwards.

No fooker will be towing my Zed after that ;)

By the time the AA/RAC turn up, the engine would've gone cold anyway...........tbh don't think they are bothered either.

It doesn't say you can't tow the car a mile from your house in the small print.

"stone cold" engine

If its dead its more likely to be an "Undertaker" engine.

A "Stone Cold" engine is one that runs on beer......:D :D

Or does it just run for 3 minutes 16 seconds and then stop?
