How much time should I allow for removing one tension rod ?

I am replacing the drivers side one. I bought the Nissan bushing from Mike F and need to figure out how much time to allow to remove it and get it to the garage that can press out the old one and press the new one in

Thanks

Easiest job you'll ever do!

15mins

Spray the bolts with WD40 or similar first,

then do another little job/have a cup of

tea/coffee while it creeps along the threads.

Thanks, then that will be my job for next saturday morning, get it off the car, take it to the garage before they close at 12, wait while they do it, have it back on the car by 10am.

Thanks

You've plenty of time to get and study this:

I do have a pair of rods with polyurethane bushes fitted

for sale. Just fitted pillow ball rods.

The recently reported troubles blamed on rods

with poly bushes may be also blamed on

oversize wheels.

My wheels are std 7.5", no problem with poly'd rods;

better steering too.

Thanks Simmo,

If I had know you had a couple of rods a week or 2 ago I might have been interested. By the way, how much for the pair ?

John

John,

Just to say you MUST replace BOTH sides if you are upgrading to poly bushes! Otherwise your car will handle very strangely under braking and cornering ;)

Thanks Andy,

I decided to just do the one side that is leaking, with the genuine Nissan bush at the moment.

Thanks again,

John

Hate to be negative John but the other side wont be far behind it.

Mine started with goo on one side then within a year goo both sides.

Willie,

Yes, Im sure the other side will follow. In hindsight, I suppose I should have gone with poly bushes.

What is the purpose of the silicon fluid inside ? There is nother inside that rotates, or does a cavity filled with silicon inside make the joint a bit more flexible ?

Thanks

John

Probably to do with trying to isolate road noise.

I ran with poly bushes and found the steering

was much better and did not notice any significant

rise in road noise.

Now have pillow ball rods which are even better,

particularly noticable improvement on tight bends.

Not done it yet but I read that beefier solid anti-roll

bars make a good improvement in handling by

keeping the wheels in better contact with ground.
