Guys,

I may be ignorant at times but please put this puppy to sleep for me: what is the best way to measure the engine oil level and the transmission fluid level? Should this be done on a cold engine, a hot engine?

Also, what is a TPS? My guess - Throttle Position Sensor????? and where is it located. Reason I ask is that I've just seen a post that details the auto box stalling the engine from time to time - apparently caused by knackered TPS wiring ... I've got the same problem (intermittently).

Many thanks for your enlightenment.

CHEERS!

Dan, yep that stalling is me, was me, or still is me will find out soon. Anyway, less of the burbling...TPS is located on the side of the left hand throttle body housing(I think) and best time to check gearbox oil is while the car as at normal temp. with engine ticking over(according to Bob at Arriva) and should not smell chargrilled and be lovely and red in colour. So there!

Engine oil? I just check mine when it's cold, you aren't supposed to add oil to a hot engine are you?

Engine oil - doesn't make much difference, just give it a minute or two after stopping the engine to run down to the sump before cecking the level

Transmission oil - doesn't matter, use the appropriate marker on the dipstick

TPS = Throttle Position Sensor. Try jiggling the wires when the engine is running. If it stalls then you've probbaly sussed it.
