Hi All,

I'm having to get under the covers to have a look at my timing as it may have slipped a couple of teeth (!). While I'm at it I'm replacing the Cambelt (again!), water pump, thermostat and am thinking of replacing the 'auto tensioner' - as this may be the culprit if the belt has indeed slipped.

I have been quoted almost £300 for the tensioner by Nissan but I can get a 'tensioner bearing' from another source for a lot less - can anyone tell me whether this is the same thing as the tensioner, just part of it or something completely different??

Thanks in advance.

Rob, the part of the tensioner that will have gone (if it has) will be the piston assembly - completely seperate to the bearing ;) Have you tried getting a price from courtesy???

Hi Andy,

No, not tried Courtesy yet. Problem is I don't want to order one on the off chance that it's gone - too much cash to leave on the shelf :(

Appreciate the advice on the bearing/tensioner

I mailed to ask if you had a decent 2nd hand one - any thoughts?

Cheers!

Yes I do but its 'sold as is' with no comeback on me if it fails - I don't really want to sell a s/h tensioner to anybody due to the possible risks - its up to you ;)

Sorry that sounds really harsh - just need to make a point thats all ;)

CheerZ,

Andy
