Anyone had a new master brake cylinder over the past year or so. If so did you notice much difference in your braking after.

Would seem a shame to go spending hundred and hundred of pounds on caliper and disc upgrades if it is something as simple as the MBC.

I had to replace mine,

did i notice a difference? yes, because mine let go and I lost my brakes on the way home from london :)

Once replaced there was no difference in braking performance since before it broke down.

Does that mean that your brakes were shit hot before it broke?..what condition are your discs and pads in?

stock discs and pads, under 6 months old at the time.

I do not understand your comment however as I never stated that my braking performance was above average, its the same poorness as any stock zed breaks. A new master brake cylinder did not improve on my stopping distances. I can't see how it would unless someone makes a performance model? once the seals inside start leaking you will get air in the system and crappy brakes. Unless you are experiencing that I see no point in replacing it.

Brake master cylinders either work or dont. When they fail one circuit usually stays working so you get some emergency brake to stop. Best if the rear circuit goes first as the fronts do about 80% of the braking effort. The foot pedal travel gets much longer. Dual circuit system on the zed is split front rear.

Spongy long travel pedal and lousy stopping distances would be very noticeable. Otherwise the master cylinder is fine. Zed problems at this age are more likely one or 2 stuck pistons in each of the 4 piston front calipers, especially on UK cars due to salts.

Properly working zed brakes are actually pretty good.

I bought a refurb kit and just replaced the m/c piston. Dead easy to do and much cheaper than a new one. It's pretty unlikely that you need a complete m/c unless the bore has become scratched.
