Has anyone built a set of long low slope car ramps that work with a zed ?

If so, do you have sketches with dimensions and material list.

Thanks

They look quite neat Andy........might make some of those up for myself. The one's I maybe could've got would've been metal from a motor factor............they won't beat those for FREE!

Thanks both of you.

Those look interesting Andy, looks strong enough.

Cheers

These are what I use John.

Basically chopped down some wooden sleepers and screwed them together with a lick of black exterior paint.

Not really worth bothering to make your own

when you can buy a 2 ton set for about £16 -£17.

Where can you buy a 2 ton set for £16 ?

All the car ramps I have seen (£29) have too steep an angle and will not clear the 300zx's body ???

Your car won't make it up the ramps without scraping the front bumper

  • Author

Thats right Stuart,

Thats why you have to make your own with a very shallow angle - about 10 degrees.

I'v got 6x 2-poster ramps & 1x 4-poster flat bed ramp with full electronic 4 wheel alignment facilities

is this what you mean!?!? :D :D

  • Author

No, I was thinking of a simple wooden one you can build for about £40 worth of wood.

Some people are just down right spoilt :D :D :D :p

That was the price quoted when I called a motorists'

shop in a local town.

Good point about the danger of fouling bumper so

maybe bespoke ramps are needed.

Be bold, dig a hole and make a nice lined inspection

pit:D

  • Author

A pit would be great, (it would also trap some of the local ankle biters too!)

Yes, when you slide standard car ramps up to the front of the zed they touch the bumper and are still a mile away from the front wheel.

You could try asking at a technical college whether

the metal working section would make you some

for a small fee.

Maybe you know a welder?

Ad in local shop window?

Had the wood and paint already so really it cost me nothing but I see your point.

I plan to make them out of something like engineering board, its like shavings of wood compacted together, unlike chipboard (which would probably do, as its a solid structure)

Get 2 4ft x 8ft sheets, have B & Q cut them (stacked one on top of the other - to save money for the cuts) into 12" wide strips running in the 4ft direction. You now end up with 16 strips of 3/4" x 12" wide x 4ft long. (will fit in the back of the 2+2 zed)

Glue and screw them together, as in the attached drawing.

That looks fine. Might nick that idea.

Maybe you could add a couple of extra boards for the

front and then a lower version for the back wheels

so that the car does not tip so much.

If you have access to the equipment you could

chamfer the leading edges and perhaps rout

a section in the boards to cut the weight down.

Gluing with suitable adhesive, screws not needed.

Oh for double garage and a proper lift.:(

  • Author

Yes, you could lighten them up a bit I guess, I calculate their weight at about 50lbs each. But I will only be dragging them about 25 ft out of the garage. (garage too small to fit the car in, and anyway, driveway between houses too narrow.

Why do they build these "garages" so small, they are not garages, just toolsheds.

John

Perhaps you need the exercise?;)

Yep, they're smallish and not always in line with the drive

either.

To be fair, the Zed is a bigger-than-average motor.

I had a g. specially built for my Zed but I so enjoy

seeing its elegant parked outside that I don't actually put it

away tho' I think that I will this back end/winter.

(There's a cctv camera in there so I could still

keep an eye on it.)

hmm, should I have put 'her' instead of 'it'?
