Just spent 1/2 hour looking through old posts, but still have a few questions about a possible brake upgrade...

1/ If I get GT-R33 front calipers and discs, will I need larger wheels? Is there a minimum size to fit the larger discs in?

2/ What should I get for the rear brakes or do I leave them standard?

3/ SS brake lines - yes or no?

4/ Anything else I should get done to the brake system at the same time.

5/ Do I need to get a zx specialist to fit all this or should a decent garage be able to figure it out? Or possibly a general import dealer garage?

Any help or comments will be greatly appreciated.

I think they'll go under 17's but it might be tight, 18's definately work. Biggest problem is with the wheel offset, the callipar is pretty big so with some wheel designs it will hit the inside of the spokes.

Come on Tony, spill the beans cus I'm looking at this upgrade.

Actually, I also have a question for you Tony. Do the Antera 309s need spacers if you fit larger calipers?

The R33 GTR Discs are 320mm so you would have trouble squeezing them under stock wheels which are 16". You will need 17" or bigger. The R33 GTR Callipers will bolt straight on in place of your stock callipers. However the R34 GTR callipers are different and will different bolts.

If you are going to upgrade the brakes then yes I would recommend upgrading to SS braided brake lines as well.

Another thing you may want to do is flush the entire system and then fill and bleed once the brakes are on. I think Dot 4.1 is recommended but don't hold me to this, there was a post a few weeks back discussing the Brake fluid, so if you do a search there you will find your answer.

With the rear brakes you may as well just leave them standard. 80% of the braking is done at the front of the car so for the cost of upgrading the rears, it's not really worth the extra cash.

Due to the R33 GTR callipers bolting straight on, it's a p*ss easy job. The pain in the arse is bleeding the system but if you get a one man clutch and brake bleeding kit from Halfords for about a tenna, you should be able to do the whole lot on your own.

Hum. Is the brake bias adjustable?

Power-induced oversteer fun, brake-bias-induced oversteer not so good...

hello buddy Anteras need no spacers as there is plenty of room in there. if you go for masitaly wheels you will need a 7 mm spacer. 330mm under 18" to be safe no problem.

i will have two kits for sale very soon.

i got me engraved pedals fitted mate they look the biz. them ones you got in group buy.

LOL

Well isn't that a conincidence. I only fitted my pedals last weekend too. Only took me 8 odd months.

Listen, how much will the calipers be and will they come with discs and pads? Will I be able to fit them if I have 18" 309s? Let us know either here or PM me ASAP.

Cheers

Cos

P.S. How were your hols?

I am very much interested in this kit lack300,dependant on price of course;)Tony

Tony, are you saying that R33 Brembo callipers and discs will need 7mm spacers on all masitaly wheels ?.

I have a set of Masitaly 18" x 9" front wheels on mine and was going to put the calipers on tomorrow morning.

if you have the same as harve then yes. also brembo do 5 types of calipers. also the discs may not have the same offset as mine supplied.

cos yes the kit will fit your 309s the 355mm conversion will just touch the weights if in the wrong place. but the 330mm kit will be fine.

"T".......

Well the fronts only just clear 300zx stock calipers so I'm worried now. Oh Well will be fitting them in about 45 mins :D

I'll let you know ;)

WIll the kits that you have ready be 330mm or 355s? and how soon are you talking? and will the discs and pads come with the package?

Well tried the wheels without the calipers and fooked up the pain on the calipers.

Bought a set of 5mm ali spacers and they seem to have done the trick.

One one problem now.... is there a particular bleeding order for the R33 calipers ? And tech site on how to do it ?
