Hi Chris

"You need special spacers which bolt to the hub and the wheel bolts onto that if you are going wide arch.

The spacers are about 2.5 inches thick so you can't just use long bolts!

All you can do is get alloys to fit the car now and get the spacers made up later. Wide arch spacers are about £300 "

I was reading the earlier reply that u left me about spacers. As i said b4 the alloys are going to be 18x8 all the way round. As u also have a wide arch (by the way the car looks well nice uv done a excellent job) is this what u did with ur alloys. As i need to buy the alloys quickly i need to know that the spacers ur talking about wont damage the bearings that simmo is talking about in his reply (pasted at the bottom of this thread) Also where do i get them from and what exactly is simmo on about when hes talking about the offset.

By the way what alloy size have u got and exactly what did you do to ur alloys

Appreciate any help u can give me

The wider rear rims have a +50mm offset.

You can use wheels with less or more offset.

The important thing is to align the center of the wheel

over the center of the wheel bearing as closely as you can,

so that the stresses will be picked up as designed into the car.

If they're not, you can be looking at wheel bearing failure in

pretty short order. You can damage other components if a wheel

bearing fails, such as the ABS sensors in front ($950 each, because

they're part of the hub which has to be replaced at the same time).

Front bearings go for about $85 each - there are two.

Rear bearings are about $125 each.

Both these prices are at a discount from list...

Some folks buy wheels with more offset than stock,

then add spacers to move the wheel back on the bearing center.

You can do that, but you may have to invest in longer wheel studs

if the spacers are more than maybe 3 mm.

Wheels with less than stock offset invite rubbing on fender well

sections and stress on the bearings, plus changes in camber,

which introduces more tyre wear....

nb Compare 18" and 17" tyre prices......

Chris is away for the weekend, these are the hub spacers I had made up for him.

My car has had these fitted for 2 years and the wheel bearings have never been changed.

IMHO 8" rims on the rear of a wide arch will look too skinny,I have 8,1/2" fronts and 10" rears;)
