The local Nissan dealer during an engine diagnostic check has said that the engine Knock sensor is defective. The part costs £180 and is very difficult to change.

They also said the Turbos are now operating in safe mode.

Can anyone confirm this, and has anyone got a sensor, where is it on the block and how do you go about changing it.

Any help please.

Car is a1995 UK TT.

Thanks

The part is inside the V under the heads and the engine has to come out to change it as far as I know!

It might be possible to get to it with just the gearbox off but I can't say for sure.

There is a bodge to get round this problem though...

The turbos will be in safety boost as the engine management system is thinking you are getting detonation/pinking and has reduced the boost to stop any damage occurring.

Ya dont have to remove the engine, just the plenum and the inlet manifold. No small job in itself,i reckon about 10-12 hours in labour should see it done.Really ya should remove the cambelt when removin the inlet manifold BUT ya can avoid if ya a bit tricky with the spanners!!If ya cambelt is anywhere near changing time just have it done, its simpler!!Thats my recommendation anyway!!

Hope this helpd ya a bit!!

Cheers

Gary

I shouldn't think the part is defective it's probably just the wire broken but still got to get to the end.
