I replaced my rear transmission mount just over a week ago, I did not replace the centre prop shaft bearing tho.

The vibration seams more noticable now, (unless its my imagination)

Does it seam possible that due to the new, stiffer rear mount the vibration is more noticable ? Was the old one absorbing some of the vibration.

Regards

John, I have a vibration that i can feel on my legs at the edge of the seat when driving and when i looked along the prop it looked like the rubber on the centre bearing was 'under weight' and like all depressed at the bottom part of the rubber. Also i have a rumbling noise at above 30 mph that has been on the car since i bought it. My point is can the rear mount be easily viewed to see where it has failed as i have looked at it but cant see anything wrong.

John,

I really did not look to see if the rear mount was shot, I just replaced it (but the old one did not look worn at all, and compared well to the new one) its only about £64 and 1 hours labour. But even if it was shot, I doubt you could see from underneath the car.

The vibration I get starts at about 30 to 50 then goes away, I can feel it in the seat back. Your vibration sounds quite severe, and you can see the rubber under some kind of compression, but what you cant see I suppose is the bearing with loads of play in it.

I will have to order a centre bearing soon (Courtesy Nissan in USA, looks to be about £100 including delivery, vat and duty) and get it done.

John

You'll probably find the bearing itself is fine but the rubber support hardens and sags with age such that the bearing settles on the bottom of the mount. Bones of its ar5e so to speak. This means the prop is sagging and vibration from sagging gets transmitted straight into bodyshell.

I changed mine. The top part rubber had cracked up and let go completely 9 bearing was fine but they dont come separately as the rubber is bonded to the bearing.
