You are in a better position to tell me the costs of owning a Skyline in the UK. I am looking at a 1995 GT-R Vspec non turbo.

 

Would Insurance be very expensive compared to a 300zx?

Are there places over there that can service them? Would that be expensive?

Just wondering because there are a few skylines here but parts are HARD to find and no one really knows how to work on them. I am thinking of bringing in one from Japan to the UK when we move.

Dont think there is a Skyline Vspec non turbo.

 

The non turbo is called the GTS I think and it is nothing special. Not the same engine as the GTR I think it is a 2.5 not a 2.6. Its only 2 wheel drive too.

 

My dad looked at getting one but finding insurance was impossible as non of them had the GTS on their books.

hmmmm.... I thought that myself, its just that they have them listed as "GT-R Vtech Turbo" and then "GT-R Vtech". So I assumed that the one's without the turbo were non turbo. Stuart I really appreciate your help.:D You think you might be able to get me some info on insurance? I'll pm you the info.

Sorry to hijack this thread but, I can't quite remember why you said you were coming to the UK. If you are coming to live I assume it's because you have no choice or because you have fallen and bumped your head because if I was in the Bahamas, you would have to fight me to get me to come and live in this grey miserable country.

oh...and by the way, I like all the R33s I've seen, even the GTS. Not sure on insurance over here though. Can vary hugely depending on area, past history, NCB and type of car.

I get that all the time, even when there on vacation. There are pro's and con's of both places. I can still come home here whenever I want for a vacation. Just want a change among other things. Oh and the cars, the GT-R Vtech Turbo is listed as 4wd. The Vtech GT-R is not. There may be a difference there in Japan.

I do not like the way the GT-S looks to be honest. In fact the ones I've seen that are GT-R's that have the sleekest curves are the 1995's and 96's. or the 2002's. :D The skylines look like they have more room in the back seats than the 300's yeah?

 

I have been driving sports cars for about 11 years now. Record is clean and I'm 28. If someone can get me a quote I'd very much appreciate it, very much appreciate it.

It's going to be about 913 quid a year or 100 per month if I choose that option.

You should get it cheaper than that.

Especially with your age, but London is an espensive place to insure a car.

Not london, Basingstoke.... thats outside of London. Hampshire is the county I think, or is it Hants? Well anyway definatley not London.....

As far as I'm aware, the only models of that year would be;

 

GTS - RB25DE (or RB20DE, I forget which) - 2.5ltr, non turbo, rear wheel drive.

GTS-T - RB25DET, 2.5ltr, single turbo, rear wheel drive.

GTS-T M - RB25DET, 2.5ltr, single turbo, 4wd

GTR - RB26DETT, 2.6ltr, twin turbo, active 4wd

 

V-Spec and V-Spec II were different trim levels and spec levels of the GTR, but all GTR's are RB26DETT equipped.

 

No difference between 'UK' and Japanese models btw, as they are all Japanese models, apart from when they started importing a few 'official' R34 GTR's - I believe it was only the GTR that was sold as a UK car (in GTR, GTR V-Spec II, and GTR Nur form, I believe) by Nissan dealers.

 

Insurance will be more expensive than the Z, but partly because of the value of the car.

 

Anyway - as I say, there's a complete and exhaustive model listing on the GTROC forum someplace if you do a search.

(BTW, I would consider the quote you had for insuring a GTR as good - I was quoted £1800 to insure an R34 GTR worth £24,000)

I think the UK spec has oil, gear and diff coolers and the japs dont.
