Guys + Gals,

I am seriously thinking of putting the ZED into storage as the gearbox is going to cost me close to a grand and what with the MOT being due (bodywork needs doing) and the tax running out, I am very very very short on cash, this is what the car has done to me! I earn good money but the car has really kicked my ass over the past 6 months, as some of you well know and along side the cost of living (renting), times are hard!

As a reault of the increasing debt, and wanting to start thinking about buying a house as the house market is getting more pathetic by the day, I thought that it may be wise to store the ZED away in a garage for 6-12 months rather than sell it as it has mainly new parts on it now (although the warranty will probably run out by the time I get it back on the road?)

What do you guys think?

SELL or STORE?

I thought I could sell and pay off a loan!

Can understand your situation mate,i would probably recomend doing as i did, sell the Z,give yourself some breathing space, get things sorted financially and with possible house purchase etc, then when all settled get another Z,allso second time round when you go to find another Z you will have more experience/knowledge etc.At the end of the day its of course what you feel is best to do.Tony

Hi Tony,

You really think I should sell?

You know the dissapointing thing?

After the gearbox and including the car costs etc it'll stand me about £12K.

I'll be lucky to get £7 for it even with all the warrantys and new parts!

So I will be paying of £5K of debt for fook all!

HOW F**K ME depressing is that!!!!!

Some f*ka give me a gun!!!:( :( :( :( :( :(

Hi Mark ... Have read all that has happened to the car since you bought it .. gotta feel for you mate ..

If I were you .... I would hang on to the car .. put her into storage for a while then when all is cool get her back on the road ..

You have put so much cash into the car shame to see it all go to waste ... like you said 7k isn't much of a return on a 12k layout is it.

chris

I'd say keep it an you now know what's been done to the car, and what's stopping the turbo's etc going on the next one...

plus you'll never see most of the cash again, but if you keep the car at least you'll know where it's gone rather than down the pan.

James

Hmmm, keep her.

Put the car on axle stands and leave the handbrake off.

Run the engine for a while once a week.

Or can you drive a little bit?

Not good to leave car on ground and unmoved for months.

Are you taking full advantage of all the '0% for six months' CC

deals that are available? -

anything to keep interest charges down is worth doing.

:( :(

thats a bugger mate.

If ithelps I put my kit into storage for a year recently. The route i chose was a 20ft sea container in a yard with 24hr access, but that cost me 140 a month. With that sort of bill you have got to look at what you are storing and how much its worth to you.

If i were to do it again, i would take the time to find some old dear who has a garage shes not using. If you can keep the costs down, storage is the way to go, if not, it is a choice of whether to lose 5k on the sale or shell out onthe storage everymonth.

Hope it comes right for you

Hi Simmo,

am in the middle of doing that at the mo, transferring two cards balances to the one which is interest free, that should help me out!

It just seems that if u read through all the horror stories from Zed owners on this forum, I have had them all come at once without having any use hardly from this car what-so-ever!

You do expect these things to happen without a doubt, I have had turbo cars for years and used to work on my escort and rover but not on the 300, its just too much for me alone to handle!

I guess there has to be one VERY unlucky person, and it just so happens to be me......:(

I dont think I can sell the car as when I go buy another one, how do I know I am not going to have the same problems??:(

I think storage is going to be the best idea!

Thanks for the kind words hugh......

I am sure I can find a garage for £30 a month or so as like you say, some old dear isnt going to mind!

Its finding one though I guess!

I have nearly afull tank of fuel too, I guess I should burn this right down before I store it though?!?

you can buy a "preserver" fro fuel, but have no experience of it, so yes I would. Also when storing bikes, I always turn of the tap (pull the fuse in the pump) and run her till she stalls, that way there is no fuel sitting in the carbs, it tends to turn to a varnish like substance

Hellfire!!

That's a lot of money for so few miles done - yikes thricely.

Probably best to keep the fuel low but not to run dry.

Good idea from Jock if you don't have your own space.

Mine's been off for 5 months but nearly ready.

Partly my fault as I've had more done than originally thought.

(And that is mostly down to this forum - seeing what I could do.......)

All you can do is look forward to a time when this is behind you;

like a visit to the dentist.

Sheesh, I would sure hate to be a first-time buyer now.

(Own property outright, smug, smug b)

Yeah well, turned 26 last week and the new missus said she wanted to buy a house, and it kinda makes sense!

I have been paying rent for about 7 years now and I have worked out I have blew around £30K on fook all!!!

Thats a lot of dollar to waste!

I mean, in our life we on average will earn about £1m (average salary) so 30K of that is a good waste!!!!

This needs to change!

Thing is though

God I gotta sort myself out, this car has a lot to answer for!!!

Other f******* annoying thing is the amount of time it has been off the road and the amount of money wasted on Insurance, tax etc.........BUGGER!!!!

Ha!

Well, if the new missus says buy a house then you know it makes sense.

26? Lucky sod - wish I could be, knowing what I know now

ofcourse;)

I've a grandchild only 6 yrs less than that.

Plenty of time to enjoy Zed later -

y not get mbike pro tem?

Yeah well I do have a bike licence, could have a bike and the fiesta instead, not a bad idea that!

More money though for the bike.

Nice to have a nice car though when your young!;)

I was thinking mebbe instead of rather than as well as .

Now you are married do you really need a back seat?;)

i agree with jock and simmo, you'll feel gutted to loose her after all the money and anguish you've put in all ready!

i can appreciate how it feels to loose your car after such little driving, ive had mine for 3 and a half months and only drove it for the first ten days.

you've definitely had the worst luck of anyone i've seen on this site, but you shouldn't get any more (not much else to go wrong i guess), and when you get back into the car it'll feel all the sweeter after the wait.

i reckon you should move house and once you've settled down there it will be like icing on the cake to get back in the zed.

good luck mate, hope you find a nice place!

FU*******************K!!!!!

The bill for the car is £1051........

They say that the clutch plates in the car were totally shot and that they knackered the clutch plate too!

The kit they use apparently comes from America and costs £295 and the labour came to a staggering £600!!

So with the vat its £1051 and I am at a fooking loss with this car!

Now, it stands me at £12K, and I am fooking struggling for cash big time and I cant keep boosting up the debts as I aint ever gonna get anywhere!

Majorly contemplating selling again!!!!

How the fook am I gonna pay this bill?!?!?!?!?!

That's an unbelievable £5.43 per mile + fuel + tax + insurance F***!!!!

Is your car trying to kill you?

Are you sure it's not named 'Christine'? *ahem*
