Hello fellow Z Gents.

I am new on this forum but a regular on the http://www.300zxclub.com

I currently reside in the Bahamas and am making a move to England probably early January of 2004. I have a Japanese 2x2 300zx NA and have a few questions please.:D

1. Do I sell my car and bring in a new one from Japan or ship my old one?

2. Are there any restrictions on importing a car from Japan, like emissions? If so do you know what is involved?

3. Am I crazy to leave the Bahamas for England? j/k lol. (I know what you are going to say) he he he

Any of you would be interested in a Reggae cafe over there? yeah mon.

Hey thanks for 'any' help you can provide ;)

It is probably easier to get one over here as imported cars have to have a little work done to them to make them UK legal, such as rear fog lights and converting speedo and it has to be re-registered with the DVLA (UK Car database thing). Virually all Jap car importers have this work done for you when the car arrives in this country. If you bring your car you will have to do most of that to your car anyway.

Also, get a Twin Turbo. :D In the UK there is virtually no difference in price to buy a Turbo and NA ones. I dont know how much you pay for a Z where you are but you can ger ones for £5000 to £12,000 with mileage ranging from 160,000 miles like mine ;) to some with 20,000 miles. There are plenty of importers here too.

I dont think you are mad. Some people prefer rain and mud brown seas to clear blue skies and golden beaches. ;)

Stuart

Thanks Stuart

I intend on getting a TT, the thing is I can import it from Japan myself, it's just the getting the car UK ready that I don't knwo much about.

I am looking forward to living over there, think of living in the heart of London and thats like where I live. The Bahamas has about 300,000 people on it and 80% of them live on this Island, and it's ony 21 miles by 7 which most people work and live on one half !

Ryan

Dear me, you old-fashioned thing. London has changed - smog has gone, it's true.

If you like living in a skip, you'll like London.

Put your Zed in storage, come over and see how long you last!!

300,000 people? I live in a medium sized town and there are about 300,000 people in the borough.

There are congestion charges in the centre of London. If you say live in London do you mean the surrounding areas or right in the middle? Have you ever experienced a traffic jam ;) Only joking.

But compairing a place which is 21 miles to here, I can see the advantages. ;)

I just got back from a holiday in Scotland driving in my Z. Great Z roads with superb views. :D ;)

If you are importing the car yourself, there are garages which are able to do all the work for you if you wish to make it UK compliable.

The only think which I can think of which should be changed but most places dont bother are the tyres. UK tyres have to tested to European standards and be stamped with a E on them. Jap cars dont have the E on them, and in theory the car wont be able to drive on UK roads until the tyres are changed, but like I said most places dont bother and I have never heard any one with troubles.

Stuart

Trust me its not the smog, it's the traffic!!! lol

Why you coming to the UK? Do you want more people to be around, as there are cities which are big with plenty of going on such as Manchester, Leeds and so on. Each closer to the country side (trust me you need a break from cities after a while) and there are no congestion charges.

Stuart

I got family over there and alot of friends. My wife hates it here and I don't care for it much either. I spent alot of time over there and always loved it. It is not the amount of people just that it takes 30mins to drive less than 2 miles here.

Also the schools are better over there. We are going to probably move in the area of Basingstoke or Winchester at first then look around.

Cool. Good luck anyway. Keep in touch anways, and on the car front, I think it will be easier to import a new car personally unless you are totally attached to your one. But you said you want a TT, so I would wait untill you get over here then get one imported. Its probably worth looking into a company getting the car for you as they usually give 6-12 month warrenty with it. Get one yourself and it brakes you have no come back.

Stuart

cool thanks alot. By the way I saw a pic of your car... real nice man. It almost looks like mine. :D

Sounds cool Lee. Why is theinsurance so high on the Z's over there? I am 28 years of age, so would my insurance on a Z cost like 1000 pounds?

i am 26 with 3years ncb and still £1200 fully comp with a high excess. i expect this to double when ive modded it

YES!!!! Very expensive to insure, coz old buggers keep buying superbikes and total them! Their aged old brains can't cope with the difference in performance between a new GSX-R1000 and the rotten old pile of 1970's 'superbike' trash they had before.

Crap looks like I'll end up using a skatboard or something, cruising down the M3 holding onto the back of a lorry hoping the bobby doesn't see me.

:(

I was hoping to get a nice 300zx a street bike for me and a family car. I guess I'll have to make do with the above??
