I've read quite a bit on here recently about subscribed members, freeloading, etc. One thing is true, we need to encourage more people to pay to join, especially as we are now planning on marketing ourself as a "club".

Personally I feel you're going to get far greater result with a carrot approach rather than a big stick. What do people get for joining? Not exactly that much more than not joining. Most people have paid up because, like me, they had been using the board previously and, when funds were required, stumped up the cash to keep everything going.

The main reason people will quite happily pay is if they see some benefit from it. So what can we easily offer that's realistic? I leave this post open to suggestions....

One salient point that springs to mind is this... I've had so much help off people on here when I've had problems with the car. You can't take technical help away from non-members as that is what attracts many people here. What you can do is not go overboard to help. For example, I've had parts lent to me to help diagnose problems. This really should only be done for paid up members. We have resources between us detailing the best places to buy certain parts, etc. These resources could be compiled and made available to paid up members only. Group buys could be kept for paid up members. Etc, etc, etc.

My ideas only. Just a suggestion but I'm sure there are many benefits we can offer paid up members, as opposed to naming and shaming and persuading people it really is their civic duty to pay up. Yeah, I'd feel like a freeloader if I hadn't paid up for all the help I've had. But people are 10 times (source: Mike's lager filled brain) more likely to pay up if they see a tangible, immediate benefit.

The best view so far on the subject

For 30 quid in the MR2DC and that's for. 2 members...... i received loads of discounts from various traders, 2 x 12 copies of the Two's Company magazine and discount on insurance.

I was going to subscribe cos of the hidden forums and the extra options i will have when posting, but now i feel i am going to subscribe to stop some people from moaning....

Ok what else do they get when they pay up?

They get this.............................................

A good discount from seven new traders that will be on here very soon, from alarms to boost controllers to bodykits to resprays to carbon fibre to OEM parts to rolling road days, only by producing your membership number will you get these discounts:D:p;)

So £20 to join and you could save ££££££££££££££££££s;)

Sounds great, but it's a bit sad that people need to be shown extra benefits before they'll join, even though they know that somebody else is having to pay for what they're currently getting. :(

Bandwidth costs money and needs to be paid for, so everyone who wants to stay should be paying for it. If members additionally get all the benefits that Mac has just mentioned, that should be a bonus.

You bet they will Dave;) watch this space.

If I can get even more traders on here to give us even more savings, our £20 fee could well be reduced;)

Does this mean you've got Ginger B*llocks back on board? ;) :D
