I'm gonna rip out the tossy standard speakers and fit some nice Pioneers.

Me question is the speaker that I want comes in both 16cm and 17cm size.

I know the fronts are 6.5" but 16cm and 17cm are both almost 6.5" and I was wondering if it'd be better to have slighty bigger or slightly smaller than 6.5"???

Any advice appreciated, cos I don't want to remove the door interiors more than once!!

Alright mate :)

I think the fronts are 6" not 6.5"? I put 6.5" in mine a few months back and the screw holes didn't line up due to the extra diameter.

So slightly smaller I reckon ;) and they'll be easiest.

But did you manage to squeeze your 6.5"s in??

I want as big as I can get in there, cos everyone knows bigger is better!!!

Nice, think I'll go for the big momma's!!

Have you got 6x9's in the rear? and if so were they a pain to fit?

No I chickened out of big rears and just went for better-than-stock 6x4s :D They'll do me for now ;)

A few others have 9x6s I think.

You can get/make brackets to hold bigger fronts I believe...

In my front doors I have the Infinity Kappa 3 way component kit. A 6x9" bass, 4" mid and a nice square tweeter.

Nismo,

You can fit 6.5" speakers in the doors but you may need to custom make an MDF bracket as the fixing points may be different to the original ones. Also, remove the metal casing that is fixed to the door as this will give you more room for bigger speakers. 6x9's fit in the rear but you'll need to create custom brackets and bash down the passengerside wheel well as this gets in the way of the speaker.

I just fitted the first phase of my ICE install last week (got toasted in the process ... too much sunshine :)) comprising of an Alpine CDM-7893R headunit, Alpine R-type 6.5" component door speakers (with 1" flush mounted tweeters) and Alpine R-type 6x9 speakers in the back - thanks to SMW for the brackets.

Fitting 6x9's in the rear took some custom made brackets and a lot of "masaging". The Alpine speakers I got are in fact too wide and I now have a tiny protrusion in the plastic boot surround ... :o

The 6.5" door speakers were easy-ish to fill. Major consideration to take into account is the depth of the speaker. If it is too deep then the window won't shut any more. Another thing I found was that the passenger door is less deep than the driverside door (perhaps it is only my car). I fitted a custom cut 9mm MDF bracket to the door card and in turn fixed the speaker to it.

Flush fitting the tweeters just above the door vents was a bit of a bugger as there is a very strong bit of metal on the inside of the door card that needed to be cut. It must be the strongest bit of metal in the door so in case of any of you having an accident hold on to the door card - this little bit of metal may just save your life ... :D;) LOL!

Everything said and done, the speakers fit nicely, sound awesome and if only I can figure out why the arial isn't coming out anymore I will be very satisfied!

Phase 2: Alpine 10" R-type subwoofer, 2 Alpine amps, Alpine DVD/GPS Navigation system with motorised DIN screen. Need to rob a bank first :)

HTH.

I've made two sets of 6x9 Brackets so far for the rears.

It helps if you can use the existing brackets and modify them.

You need to use a template of your 6x9 speakers to cut a mount out of sheet metal.

The best thing to then do is place this cut out template on top of the existing backet and draw where the legs should attach.

Next you need to cut away the anything inside of the new bracket, which usually means you are left with just the legs of the old bracket.

These can then be welded (no good sticking as they won't last) onto the new mount.

Before anyone asks !!!! Although I have done these for Danny (as he offered to pay me for them and sent me his original brackets - which makes it 10 times easier) I can not take on any more as I have already agree a long time ago to do some for Nigelboyd and Beermonster, but sorry guys I really haven't had the time just yet. I will try and get round to it shortly, just so busy at the moment.

Cheers for that Stu.

I don't have a welder, so looks like it's 6x4"'s for me :(

7" X 5" 3 way Kenwoods go in the rear with only the holes for the self tappers needing re drilled. Plus some rubber gasket to make a good seal if you like half decent bass.

Just for reference, Pioneer TS-E1695 (16cm 3-way) speakers fit perfectly in the existing front speaker mounts. The screws line up with the holes and everything!! :D

Just gotta make brackets for the rears now.

6x9's in the front is the only way to go! ;) :D (yes, they do fit!)

ARRRGHHH, which funkin' genius at Nissan decided to make the left hand rear wheel arch higher than the right!!??

Just sprent hours fitting my right hand 6x9" only to find out that the left one will not fit, cos it's too deep. BASTAD!!!

Just fitted Infinity 6x9 front and rear , peace of cake except did it slightly different to the suggestions above.

Fronts just removed the speaker vent , cut a bigger hole in the door card and and bolted them straight to that so they sit on the outside of the door card , had to remove the original speaker housing in the door though, cut it in half and put back the top bit , if you see what i mean.

Rears just cut a bigger hole in the standard panel and again the speakers sit on the top easy peasy , powered by a rockford fosgate 4 chanel amp and boy does it sound good

Hey Bagins,

Got any piccys of your install?? Also what model Infinity 6x9"s did you fit in the rear? I was thinking about buying 6x4"s after my fiasco with Pioneer TS-E6995, which are too deep to fit in the rear of a Zed, but I want 6x9"s really.

Cheers

Guy.

LMAO !!!. Yeah the left one needs to be persuaded to make room for the 6x9 magnet.

There is nothing under the left wheel arch and the wheels will never go that high into it anyway, so check to make sure the area is not rusting, then you want a small lump of ply wood and a hefty hammer you made a dent in the left wheel arch.

Both myself and AndyP have used this Hammer technique with good results :D.

I thought about doing that, but bottled it in case I did any damage to the wheel arch. But it's OK to smack it down a bit is it??

Nah, they were tiny and too expensive.

Got a pair of these instead;

Although they are proving a royal PITA to squeeze in.

Looks like it's Hammer-time tonite!!!!

Sweet! - good luck with the install :)

Just use a lump of wood or rubber when you lower the arch to stop the coating breaking.

Will do!!!

Now that's my kind of DIY, twatting the she-ite out of something with a bloody great hammer!! :D
