I just had to put this in here as I suspect that there are quite a few members who haven't read all the thread at the top of this forum.

I just did a quick check and noticed that there are 220+ members on this site who have posted more than 50 times each.

Even if you allow for some fast typing and verbal you know whats, these people have been here for a while and have got used to using the site and it's many benefits.

So how is it that there are only 120 members who have paid up the paultry £20 to support the site and it's work.

If you are one of the 100 'members' with 50+ posts and still unsubscribed then NOW IS THE TIME. You've all had at least £20 worth of membership so do the decent thing.

Personally, I would support banishment of anyone who gets over 50 posts without paying, you're freeloaders and you know who you are.

and I do feel better now that I've got that off my chest!

I'm going to subscribe when i get back in the UK, till then you'll have to live with the fact that i'm not subscribed :D

Agreed Nigel,

after all, what's £20?

Just over 1/4 tank of petrol

3 Autoglym products

1/5 of a decent set of brake pads

5% of the price of a boost controller

etc etc etc

Dave

I agree Nige,If you going to come on here and keep posting then PAY UP!

Think it could be time for a poll;)

Something like this?

Would you prefer:

a) those people who haven't bothered paying their £20 to pay up?

b) to pay another £20 to subsidise them?

I wonder which I'd vote for...

Well we got the subscibed member bit ok'd by the mods, so why dont we have something like "cheapo member" or "tight barstard member" on their avatar instead!!!

Shame them into paying up!!!!

LMAO Barks .... it's a master-stroke :D:D:D:D

Now please dont take this the wrong way becourse i am thinking about joining. But i do geniunely do need it explaining to me.When i first posted on this site some two and a half years ago there was no paying then i come back after a year away and there is a subscripson, i also use other chat sites like Ferrarichat.com and MV agustachat without paying anything and this is not called freeloading. I spoke to a certain person who runs a high profile Z buisness who said the forum lost quite a few chatters becourse of the fee,but i do understand that the forum is now busy. All i want is for someone not to slag me of for dareing to ask the question, but just to answer the question that was asked by some one who may be seen upon as nieave. Oh and by the way as i said i am thinking of subscribing and i have read the top post, but why do some chat forums cost nothing and others you have to pay.Chaz

Could be that Z owners are so used to paying massive bills, that anything free just doesnt feel right ;)

Basically, because forums are either;

a) Small, low userbase, and therefore low bandwidth. Cheap to run.

or

b) Big, large userbase, stupid amounts of bandwidth per month - 'kin expensive to run.

Sadly, we fall into the latter category.

To run a BBS like that requires either;

a) Someone or some people with more money than sense to stump up the £1k a year to host the side & pay for the bandwidth.

or

b) The people who are using the bandwidth to contribute toward it.

And that is the long and the short of it.

Well i'll had my 2p worth here as well.

As I'm one of the non-subscribed members on here with over 50 posts!!

Yes I beleive that it is well worth the poltry £20 to join properly, and once my life/divorce/split is sorted out properly i'll do it or sooner if poss.

The only problem with stopping people from posting after 50 posts, unless they have paid up, is that a lot of the jovial banter on threads/posts on here is supported by the non-subscribed members, so what will happen is your following will diminish! If they cant post, they'll go elsewhere and probably not come back. Now I know some, mainly the subcribed members, will argue and say i dont know what i'm talking about, and that i should just payup and stop FREELOADING, your opinion and you're entitled to it.

Some people have been on here quite a long time and have not posted much, I've been here for only a couple of months and have posted quite a bit, and I wont stop posting when I subscribe, but it's the people who contribute to the site that makes new comers look at it and keep returning to it, and then hopefully subscribe to it as well. If you limit the amount that people can post then these new comers will think that there isnt much here for them. The limited number of subscribed members can not keep up the amount of interest that is required on the site for attracting new membership.

Anyway, I'm sure this'll go down well, as all negative comments do, but again this is what is needed, two(or more) opinions on a subject.

DAVE

PS- Dont get me wrong, I'm not having a go at the subscribed members, it's just a point of view.

Ok Dave but if no one paid their £20 fee, this site would have been long gone,Last year we had to pay to keep the site going, next year it could be costing £800 just for bandwidth:(

The point is that the subscribed members are now being asked to pay another £20, on top of the £20 they've already paid.

If those people who have made over 50 posts and still haven't subscribed did so, we wouldn't have to pay that extra £20 now.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect everyone to pay their share.

Bear in mind that the people with the most technical knowledge, and who are the ones most likely to help people out, tend to be subscribed members. So, not only are they helping non-subscribed members, but they're paying extra for the privilege so that those people can get help without having to pay.

I agree Dave, this happend to a Ferrari chat site that i was on,but people left and went to a yahoo chat group which ended up bigger than the old group.I had better get paid up tp this group soon,or some of you may see me as a trouble maker:D ........thank F**k for the smiley face;) .Chaz

Maybe we're just nice people. ;)

There's no real right or wrong answer to this. I would like people to feel 'obliged to pay' rather than force them to. Of course if everyone who registed to use the site paid then it would probably only be a couple of quid each ... Trouble is people have the view that stuff on the Internet is free - of course that isn't true, it's usually just the case that someone else pays - just like now.

Hunt them down and shoot them like the freeloading rabid dogs that they are!:D

Thanks guys for your responses, and yes i totally agree, there should be more subscribed members and if they all paid up, WOW, wouldnt it be good!! But it aint gona happen, is it??

Yes I can see where you are coming from, why should you be paying for the privaledge of thoses who cant be bothered?? You shouldn't have to be, and quite right so. But you are in danger of driveing ('cuse the punn, plz) possible new members away with all of this.

It is a tricky subject, that requires a lot of thought, and its not for me to answer as I'm not subscribed. But the wrong dessision could be detrimental to the forum, in the long run. It's not easy there are a lot of opinions here and a few choices that could go in many different directions.

When I say a lot of opinions here, I mean in general, not on this thread, as they probably wont want to post because of looking like FREELOADERS!!!!! Scared their opinions will be met with hostility!!

DAVE

If I'm honest, I think that if this BBS becomes a club requiring £20 p/a renewals, and if we're unable to post without paying that £20 (which would be a byproduct of this suggestion, I think), then I imagine I'll no longer be posting when my 'membership' runs out..

In fact, if I was a new member now, and someone told me to pay £20 otherwise I'd be unable to post, I'd probably go elsewhere..

But that's just me..
