Hi all

Just wondering if anyone can throw any light on why my Zed - a 89, jap spec, TT Targa Automatic is doing a very low 13mpg?

It used to do at least 19-21 but for some reason has now dropped to 13mpg?

Also where can i get good allloys for the car that will def fit the ZEd?

Just gt back form ibiza today where it was 42 each day in the shade..its quite cold here then!!!!!!!

Regards

With the hot weather, it could be leaking fuel lines due to pipes expanding, O2 sensor/s dead, one coils has come loose, beside these there could be lots of other things which I can't think of at the mo'.

Good luck

Van

for comparison my 89 TT manual with both O2 sensors dead is giving me about 12 mpg whn driving around London which then goes up to about 22mpg on the motorway :D

Will get round to putting those new sensors on evetually !

Hi

I am getting around 150 miles from a tank (mixed running - mainly urban and a bit dual carraige way) , how many gallons is the Z tank? I have never worked out my mpg but suspect it is not great...

My car has always struck me as doing poor (jap NA auto) mpg, wonder if I should get it seen to? It seems to be running fine apart from that, I have seen other threads that seem to vary on the mpg from about 15 to 24...

Any opinions?

Cheers

Barry

Ok first check the easy things, can you smell fuel in the engine bay? or around the fuel tank?

Hi all

Thanks for all your advice.

I can def smell petrol in the cabin and in the engine apartment. I have looked at the engine and fuel pipes but cant see a leak.

Should i tighten all the clamps or is something more drastic needed?

Try the fuel pressure regulator and dampner units both on fuel lines. These tend to leak. I replaced mine, then the fuel pump then fuel filter then converted to manual.

Now I'm happy to say I'm getting approx 300 miles per tank depending on where I'm driving.

Used to be 220 on the Auto

You'd be loosing one hell of a lot of fuel for it to be doing that little to the gallon ! Mine does around 20 and it dropped to 17 when one of the O2 sensors died - that is one of the most likely causes. It will be easiest to diagnose if you have access to a ConZult or Techtom.

I'm getting about 15-18mpg from mine.. Usually 200 miles to a tank, although I could probably stretch that to 250 if it was all motorway mileage at a steady speed..

Then again, that is a JWT chip with 555cc injectors :) (Although still only 7psi)

Seems i will have to change the O2 sensors. where can i buy these from. I paid £120 quid for one from an independent garage last time. Thing failed quickly.

Also how difficult are they to fix. Down in devon there is no-one who can do this work so any ideas who i can take my zed to?

Regards

Ian

Or you could try MJP he will be on this site with his new shop very soon;)

FFS I must be becoming an old fart. I normally get 320+ and that's with knackered O2 sensors
