turbo replacement - How difficult.

Hello there folks,

I;ve checked the small print on my warranty policy and found that the turbos are only covered if they6 fail suddenly rather than by wear and tear. All this means I'm actually contemplating changing them myself.

I'm not kidding myself in that I know its a mammoth job. I know its possible to do it with the engine in-situ and this is the way I'll have to try it as I don't have any way or removing the engine.

Has anyone done this?

Annoyed with myself more than anything as I should have checked the policy more thoroughly.

Cheers.

Martin.

Hi martin

Don't know if anyone on here has done it in car ( change turbos that is )

It is a bitch of a job to do though. Hope you have small hands and some old spanners you can bend to get to the more awkward fastners !!!

Before you fit the new turbos make sure you flush the oil feed line

cheers for the response. I think I'll jusdt have to end up biting the bullet and getting a garage to do the work. Sounds like a real bitch off a job that could easily take a week or more of my time. Most garages quote around £600 labour and that allows for pulling the engine.

Just need to find a suitable garage to do the work now.

All the best.

Dick300 has done it without engine out! And he has rebuilt them himself - super hero in my opinion.

Hello there Willie,

I notice that you are in Flakirk. I live in Edinburgh. Can you recommend a Z friendly (and knowledgable) garage?

Cheers.

No sorry. Ive done all the jobs on mine so far by myself except the prop centre bearing.

Colin Dick (dick300) is in Bonnybridge and there is a garage there called Hypertech that does stuff on his - apparently also good at NOS!

Colin Dick has done turbos himself but I would guess there must be a garage in Edinburgh able to help you.

Willie

Cheers Willie,

I'll give Hypertech a phone. Other option is Calder Motor Company (import specialist) thery've done quite a few turbo replacements on 300ZX's so should know what they are doing.

We should meet for a chat and a pint at some point along with Colin is he's up for it.

Cheers.

Martin.
