Right I know I asked this before and Steve E told me that the fan only comes on at 105ºC and comes on full power at 110ºC so I presume when the temp is below that it is normal.

I had a cambelt change and before then I it was running cool very rarely going over 80ºC and when it did it went no higher than 90º.

Now after my cambelt change which the water pump was changed too, its getting to 100ºC too often. Today I was driving 50mph down the motorway at 2000rpm in 5th gear and the temp was about 95ºC.

I accelerated to 70mph which was about 2500rpm for about 10 miles and the temp went up to 110ºC, when I started to get a little worried.

Any help?

Stuart

Yeah well Stuart, the thermostat starts to open at 76ºC and is fully open at 90ºC. It could be sticking closes slightly. They do have a habit of sticking closed.

Have it checked out.

Yeah thanks.

I was wondering if any one was going to answer.

So you reckon the thermostat could now be sticking after it was taken off?

No one was answering so I talked to myself. ;)

Do you know what you better check your radiator fan.

Do you know what, its sticking. It needs a nudge to start moving. Hmmm, not the best. I think its not come on.

I think I need a new rad fan ASAP. ;)

Thanks Stuart, and Pete for taking an interest. :D

Stu have you thought about why you got no answer? How many people have an aftermarket gauge?

Mine has been running 82 even in this heat seen it go to 87 on full boost,IMHO yours is running way too hot.

Plus it's a little bit like asking how long is a bit of string..

If I had a 'real' answer to give (one backed up by firm evidence), then I'd have posted a reply.. but I don't..

Personally, I'd say start to really really worry when it's over 120 stationary.

And that it shouldn't get up to the kind of temperatures that will require the electric fan when you are moving above about 30mph, as the electric fan will be moving less air than the airflow through the rad due to your speed.

But that's not exactly an accurate answer..

Plus of course the fact this has been asked by you and answered by numerous people more times than Nelson has mentioned MASS  if it goes over 95 your running to hot. if it gets to 110 your looking at blown head gasketts anytime soon.

Hope you have 1-1.5K ready just incase;)

I just phoned Nissan for the price of an electric fan.

Hmmmm

Just for the motor of the fan, nothing else.

Guess how much!!!

Stuart

Stu,

Its obviously far too hot in your car and you've got heat exhaustion mate.

Its gone to your head.

You're cracking up!!!!!!

Hi Warren,

i was on the M25 last week - the aftermarket pod was reading 115 'C but the stock guage was only slightly higher than halfway - any chance the guage is f...ed? has this happened before?

Regards,

Alex

errmmm check the guage isnt on peak reading as when you switch of it will still take a readign, so heat soak and all it might be showing your peak temp.

the stock guage is brand new (wellt he sensor i put in is new) so its pretty reliable.

but reset it, i never had it that hi, but then i never ran in these sorts of temps, so long as water isint pissing out of the expansion tank :p its fine lol

i think its the gauge isnt reading correctly - she sits quite happy with the stock gauge at halfway and the pod at 105'C.

I've finally got her back from Progress for the heater matrix and water pipes - i'll send you an email about that - and dave thinks that she is giving faulty readings - when the gauge was at 100'C he could still hold the water pipes in his hand.

damn z's make you paranoid - did anyone mention a joint therapy session?

Stu, the electric fan is so rarely used it's almost redundant ;)

The ONLY time mine has come on is during engine probs, never in busy traffic, in heat either. There is a way of testing the fan itself and it's power source by bridging 2 wires that go to it, the fan should come on, if it doesn't then yes something needs replacing.

With yer viscous fan going all the time don't panic on that side of things just yet. Could be s ticky thermostat approx 10-15 quid to change or the dreaded temp sensor electrical side of things, i take it the stock one has not been connected with your aftermarket one ?

Is the viscous fan going all the time ?

Sure AndyZ would have a spare electric one if needed, cos hardly any fooker asks for one :D

cheers

So redundant, in fact, that I don't even have one fitted to my car...

lol, then it could be plugge dinto the wrong sensor under the steering, the control box has controlls for water, oil, and boost pressure, try checking that out.
