Urgent help needed with Z purchase please

Firstly, I'd like to apologise for the urgency of my request.

I've been looking to buy a Z for some time now, I've just this week been to see one that I'm very interested in buying, but there are a couple of issues I'd like to ask here about before I make up my mind.

The car in question is a 93 manual TT, just imported. It has been had the addition of an HKS single exhaust, HKS induction kit and HKS blow-off valves. 42k miles. Asking £5300.

I took it for a test drive on Monday, and was impressed enough to ask for a second viewing (today), taking a friend of mine who is rather an excellent mechanic, although he has no experience of Z32s (he had plenty of experience of my old Z31 though).

He gave it a thorough going over, and reported back to me with the following problems:

The engine hung at about 1100rpm whilst driving, after releasing the throttle.

When the throttle was blipped, the engine would hunt.

When accelerating hard, you could here the turbos.

He said to me that the racing / hunting may very well be cured by a good tuning and the turbo whine may be due to the uprated induction. Of course, he said that he hadn't any experience of the Z32, and I should try to seek expert advice, so that's what I'm doing :)

If it helps, we used the buying guide, and the compression was fine, as was the turbo boost pressure.

The urgency is due to the fact that I have to give the garage an answer either way by lunchtime tomorrow (Friday).

My apologies for the length of this post, if anyone could give me advice on whether I should go ahead with the purchase, or turn away and look some more, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks for your time.

sorry cant help with problem, but currious about handle, that is the badgery bit, is that your surname?, as it is not that common.

Except in Australia.

We could have something in common.

the high idle & hunting would more than likely be cured by cleaning the throttle bodies & idle valve, tps connectors & resetting the ECU. do a search, theres loads of tech articles on this

as for hearing the turbo's, yes, you do get more of an induction noise with an induction kit - is there much smoke coming out the exhausts when you boot it??

hth :)

No (reliable?) service history I suppose?

Who did the M.O.T. test? Go and have a word see if it passed first time.

Why does the garage want such a quick answer?

What size garage?

How long in business?

Reputation?

Walk away if you are not completely happy!

Problem with imports is that you can not be really sure what's happened to them.

You would be safer to buy from a specialist dealer or one with FSH.

Thanks for the replies :)

There isn't any service history with the car, unfortunately.

The garage enjoys a good reputation for selling Japanese import 4x4s, and have recently started selling sports cars. This is the third Z they've had and have also got an Evo 6, R32 Skyline GT-R and a couple of Mitsy GTOs in at the moment.

The reason they want a quick answer is my own fault, I haggled the price down, got them to agree to throw in some spares (as there's a destruction warrant Z in there) and promised them a yes or no by lunchtime.

I couldn't see any smoke when booting it.

I'll check the MOT thing first thing in the morning.

And finally, Badgery isn't my surname, my handle is the one I've been using when playing games on the internet for years.
