Thinking off buying jap import ZX.

Hi there,

Been thinking of buying a jap import ZX either turbo or non turbo.

Am I going to be buying a big expense and a gas guzzler?

The car will be on a 90/G or later and around the £5k mark.

I don't want to buy a car and have to mod it to keep it going apart from alarm immobiliser etc.

Any views would be a great help.

Thanks :)

oop's forgot to mention, Driving an 88 BMW 320i at the moment that does around 30mpg @80mph just as a comparison on the ZX

Thanks again :)

youll be gettin around 20mpg in a zed

But if its a TT, then you can get it much lower if you try. ;)

Actually, I dont even try...

Hmmm.

Seriously though, If you worry about the mpg, go for an NA. If you dont have to commute 98 miles a day, go for a TT.

Either way, its a car that brings a big smile to your face every time you drive it. :)

My car was a jap import and the only problem iv had so far is exploding water hoses. if the car is older than 10 years then u might wanna think about changing them as alot of people recommend to change all of them after about 10 years as they tend to go 1 by 1. Can be costly though.

Other than that shes been wonderful

try get a low mileage 1 coz the more miles shes done the more chance of work thats gonna be needed to it.

Fas

(waiting for the car god to send my hoses)

p.s. get a manual and twin turbo (loads of fun) autos are slow

You need to do some homework wrt differences between the import and uk spec cars. There's plenty of info on here about insurance, but imports are harder and more expensive to insure (for no real reason!). Rear seat belts are probably only 2 point harnesses in your import. but you can get uk spec 3 points fitted if you need to fit a baby seat -like me. This cost me about £150 all told - if you can find second hand seat belt parts, and you have to strip out the rear trim to fit them.

18mpg is my average in a TT driving back and forth too work in fairly heavy traffic and getting a bit of a blast on the open road at the weekend.

But I think all NA owners would agree - it's just not a TT is it lads!

Thanks for the replies, most helpfull :)

Just as an update and hopefully help anyone else out, I've been getting quotes on insurance.

Details:

Age 35

no claims, convictions etc

1 years NCB

12000 miles per year

cat 2 immob

300ZX non turbo jap import

Tesco insurance = £1770 fully comp  cat 1 & tracker a must.

Norwich Union = £770 fully comp same as a U.K car. :D just cat 2 Immob.

Some insurance co's refuse to insure em just coz of the fact they are imports.

I'm paying £700 on an 88 BMW 320i so to me the insurance isn't going to be much different.

Hope this helps anyone else considering an import.

Thanks again :)

u can buy my 1992, white, UK, leather TT, Private plate, FSH etc. UNMODDED, for £5000.

Thanks for the offer but the one thing i never do is buy white cars.

No offence to you but I feel it makes the car look old.

Just my personal opinion and i'm sure there are others that feel different.

The type of colour i'm looking for will be either Black, Dark Grey or Red.

All the best :)

no probs -I never used to like white cars, but the zed does suit it quite well, as do other sports cars.

Is this still for sale ? im in Wirral to so if it is you could be in luck :)

With the savings that you can make insuring a UK car, buy the white and have it sprayed the colour of your choice.

Besides which, you'll know where a UK car has been.

what about Silver?

Mines a Jap TT manual...

Dan

I mean my Silver Zed is for sale!!!

Black,TT auto, 1993 Series 2, 51000 miles, imported by me, 17" split rims, UK clocks, exhaust, apart from that standard and very nice. Interested??

Get a Manual TT or 2 seat Manual NA.

Dont bother with the troublesome, slower Autos of either model! :D :p :D

I need a low miler TT 2+2 dunno about UK or Jap what you recomend :)

And it must be Manual ;)
