I'm thinking about buying a standard J-spec '97 TT with 40k miles on the clock. Trouble is I've just HPI'd it and its come back as CAT C damaged. Is it worth the bother of getting it checked out or should I leave it? What do I have to check it for and where would I have it inspected? Presumably the RAC would not be the best call? The current owner genuinely seemed surprised to find out that its been written off. What should I pay for it?

Thanks for your help, hoping to join the Z community...

I'm not sure what the insurance implications are for a cat C car, some may not insure you at all even though it's nothing to do with you........

I was looking at an MR2 some time ago and it was cat C (I think!) and I couldn't get the thing insured at all, it wasn't me it was the car (each broker I called said the same thing)

The car I have to say was repaired and was mint in every way, flew the RAC inspection no problems and it looked great, just insurance on the thing that stopped me, but in a way I'm happy as I travelled full circle and bought a Z...........

:D

Matty.

Wasnt there a post about the differences on the category of damage?

I will try to find it.

Where abouts in the country are you?

Stuart

I'm in Newcastle. I've inspected the car and it seems fine and drives ok, just for a car with the power of a Z and this fancy dan 4 wheel steering gizmo you don't want it to be out of sorts
