OK, I've read a bit about painting calipers, but my new wheels are so open that you can see all the disk and hubs too. Obviously the disks are nice and shiny, but the hubs are all rusty!

Is it safe to assume that I can take them off, scrub them up and spray paint them? and if so, do I need to use caliper paint, or is heat not so much of an issue?

Hi Nigel ,i in past have left the disc's on and just cleaned up hub area with a wire brush then some wet n dry, then i used some smooth Hamerite paint,or radiator paint, you can get them in all colours and you can get it on nice n thick, last hell of a lot longer and the dirt seems to fall off easier when washing wheels;)

Nigel, I cleaned mine up with a rotary wire brush and drill then used a high temperaure paint (eg VHT) as the disk hubs can get quite hot!

Sounds like the trick I need. How long did it take you to do all four? (I might try to pursuade my garage to do it while it's in having all the suspension bushes and arms renewed next week!)

Anyone got any pictures. I would be very interested to see these :D

I've been told that the best thing to do is wire brush them and then carefully rub some wd40 on them. Make sure not to get it on your discs.

Geoff.

Oh yes, oil and brake calipers, great tip!

:D :D

How does WD40 encourage rust, it says it helps prevent it on the can?

There is no way that WD40 encourages rust. I use it on my gardening tools and it preserves them.

Geoff.

Bloke in the pub said so !!!!

I have not tried using it on my tool.

Wonder what it would do ?

Sting, I reckon.

Still no one prepared to commit to the question - How long does it take.

I'm thinking of the drying time too,as I don't have the facilities to do all four at once (ie my car doesn't float when I take the wheels off).

Whic part of popeye does not rust?????!!!!!!

Olay!

LOL WD40 DOES actually cause rust! **** knows why but it does. If it prevents it, then why is EVERY 3 month old can of WD40 rusty? :D:D:D Check it - its true!

Drying times - check the can of the paint you are using.

Because the WD40's on the inside? ;)

Apparently I have been told, probably by the same bloke in the pub that WD40 is designed to attract water molecules!

That is why you shouldn't spray K+N filters with it to attract dust as it makes them go rusty!
