water hoses (how many are there)

Just a rough question which i needed a answer 4. how many water hoses are there at the rear of the engine bay.

I had to replace 2 of the heater matrix hoses and now it has sprung another leak so im clueless. i just wanted to know what it could be and what are the chances its the heater matrix.

Many thanks

Fas

Unless the leak is in the footwells of the car, it's not the heater matrix (heater matrix is inside the dash, not in the engine bay on these).

There's at least (tries counting) 8 small hoses that relate to the tubs directly, and probably another 8-10 hoses that run under the inlet manifold, through the throttle bodies, and IACV assembly..

Lots to leak..

so it is probably the hoses then.

The car has been parked up 4 a week now and there is little water in the radiator can i fill it up and drive it about 1/4 of a mile to my mechanic to drop it off or should i get the AA to do it.

The car was parked up 4 a year is this the reason why my hoses keep splitting. should i just replace all the water hoses to stop the hassle of constantly breaking down.

Cheers Fas

If it's losing water when it's not even running, I wouldn't even consider driving it to your mechanic - get it towed..

And it's most likely just age I'm afraid.. after 10-14 years, all those little water hoses (they are all 8mm) get brittle and crack and then leak.. Standing probably hasn't helped it any though, as they'll have gone from setting rock solid to getting cooked and put under 2bar of water pressure again..

And yes - change them all.. Get the upper inlet manifold removed and all the hoses under there changed, and the ones to the TB, and the ones at the back of the engine (you might have to remove the gearbox to do the lower pass. turbo feed pipe, or have a mechanic with very small hands :)).

Or do what I did and bypass the water pipes under the inlet manifold and just pipe to the tubs direct.. If you do a search, you'll find the heated debates ;) (pardon the pun!)

hi -

you might like to speak to progress engineering (dave)- they have replaced the heater matrix on mine - and now are replacing all the water hoses - 6 i think - i believe there are two more but are made of a different material so wont go.

I have been told different reasons for the problem but i'm still havent got to the bottom of it.

it could be

1) custom radiator not working

2) air diffusser behind front grill fitted incorrectly

3) radiator cap not regulating pressure

4) bad head gasket pressurising water jacket.

Mayvbe 1 year and £10K i might get to the bottom of why she keeps overheating. - *****ks - might actually get to drive her one day.

1) Is that one of Warren's rads? I have one working OK in my car, although I'm using a Nismo high pressure rad cap. AndyP had some probs with his using a stock radcap.

2) Unlikely I think - I've run both my cars with/without all of the various diffusers/underpanels/fan shrouds in various configurations.. None made any discernible difference to water temperature (on an aftermarket guage)

3) Quite likely if it's an old stock one - it's a fairly common failure, and they're not expensive to replace (even from Nissan :D). Usual telltale is that the overflow tank gets fuller and fuller until it starts overflowing after a run.

4) If it's that one, a sniffer test should show it up (as it would have to be exhaust gas leaking in order to pressurise the water jacket over-spec).

HTH :)

hi aaron -

yep its wazza's

the radiator cap was the nismo - going back to standard to see if it helps.

i am told that no gasses in the water jacket.

wazza said she ran at 95'C - hot but since i picked her up she has run between 95 - 105 and 130 when she blew the heater matrix - something aint right - i replaced the heater matrix - she blew a hose - i replaced it she blew another -i replaced that and she blew a third - i'm awaiting all the hoses from nissan - either there is too much pressure or all the hoses are ****ed. either way she was running too hot anyway.

Regards,

Alex
