I used silicon grease (from Maplin) to try to cure the leaks from the T-top. But in this hot weather it just runs out, gets to thin in this heat. Does anyone know of an alternative product ?

Thanks

some people said peanut butter or eanut oil

gotta remember though people are allergic to that stuff, I know if i used it i would run the risk of killing a few of my cousins.

How thick was the stuff from Maplins ? If its consistency was quite soft and watery it may explain why it ran out.

The stuff I use (Dow Corning DC4 ) is fairly stiff.

If you give me an address I'll post you a tube if you like

Cheers

Thanks everyone.

Robin, in the tube the stuff is thick, but it gets thin in the hot temps of late. Does the stuff you use (dow corning) get thin and run in the high temps ?

Regards

Hi John

Just checked Dow Cornings website and on the product spec sheet it states non melting and maintains it's consistency to 200 degrees celcius.

Hope this helps

Robin,

Thats the stuff I need then, this Maplins stuff is useless.

Did you say once before that you got your stuff at RS Components ?

Thanks

John

I think we get it from RS, I can check in the morning or I can send you a tube, I have a nearly new one in front of me now.

Thanks for you offer to send me a tube (let me know how much money, including postage, and I will send you the money)

I once tried to buy from RS, they make it difficult if your not in the trade.

MY email me @ john.dixon50@ntlworld.com with your address (so I can send you the money) and I will e-mail back with mine.

Thanks so much.

Guys

I had Niagara Falls on my right leg every time it showered - mostly every day :D - and did all of that greasing and stuff.

In the end it turned out to be the seal between the glass and the bodywork of the t-top. Water was getting in and dripping down looking for all the world like it was coming through the join between the roof and pillar. Got some black sealant from Halfords - sorted.

Just a suggestion............

Mark

Try Molycote 111, has a stiff consistancy and is food grade, therefore you can eat it. We use it for assembling seals into pumps. Supplier: Cromwell tools in Luton. This stuff is quite expensive:D

Thanks Matt,

I think I will stick with the silicon grease, should cure it. Its not a massive leak (and its on the passenger side, at least I stay dry)

John

I should have mentioned, Molycote 111 is a Silicon based grease.

Matt.

RS are a bag of poo! Try http://www.cpc.co.uk ;) Even though the ****s just gave me a 1% pay increase
