Help!!!!! From the nearside my car sounds like a dreaded diesel! It's not in the engine bay but sounds like it's coming from the rear of the wheelarch. Has anyone got any ideas? Almost sounds like it's coming from the front of the door!?

Anyone?

Check the aiv has not gone bad and is leaking exhaust gas, seen this a couple of times, the leak tends to be in pulses and sounds similar to your description, take the inner splash guard off and check for leaks, if it is so best to remove them anyway rather than pay to repair.

Hi, Jeff mate. I have no cats. What I've had done to keep the costs low I've had the cats hacked off and a pipe welded in their place so there is only the AIV pipes going into the exhaust front pipe just ahead of the cat pipe. Do I still need the AIV filters in the wings?

remove front wheels, peel back the inner arch lining just a few screws & clips, nearest the back of the bulkhead...

You'll see all the gubbins that's associated with the AIV, a few more bolts and all comes off, chop the pipe that goes to the top of the wing, take out the vacuum tubing and plug the end up..

Did mine at the weekend..only takes 10mins each side......

cheers Jon....;)

Cheers, Jock. Thats a really helpful link. I have removed the AIV boxes before (gurgling) and cleaned them out so I know how oto remove them but not what to do with the pipes. I'll try this when I get a moment.
