I painted my calipers the other day wih Halfords heat proof paint (bloke recomended it to me) ever since then when the brakes get hot (after about 40mins driving) they make a sort of crunching sound when i put the brake on. In fact the longer i drive it the worse it gets! Ive taken the wheel off and had a decent look but it seems fine. Has anyone had this prob before? Thanks for any help-

Mike

have you lost any part of the brake shims, e.g. the metal clip

I had like a creeking sound, sounded really serious. My problem was the pads, they where dry on the back of the pad. Removed cleaned and recopper slipped them, all nice and quiet again. Just a though, could be similiar.

Had the brake creek myself, removed pads and cleaned and copper slipped, still there. Got new pads and everything is quiet.

pads look ok!

However the wheels are al off being chromed at the moment, so i will take the pads out and clean them up with copper slip

Cheers guys

Pads LOOK ok or ARE ok??

If you have the creak then cleaning and copper slipping is not going to help. The creak occurs when the pads run low and the pistons for the calipers have to be pushed out further to brake.

You say 'crunching' though so doesn't sound like caliper creak anyway.

I have a slight creak on the rear wheel, had it since my pads were new so I may try recopper slipping them

The pads are about 1/2 way through there life span, and ive greased up the pistons now as well. I have to wait till i get my wheels back before i can test them out. Thank for your help peeps! Hope it does the trick
