I have just joined the forum after recently buying a jap spec 300zx TT Tbar Manual. Thought I got it at a good price, 4,750. But now I know there was a reason for that. It has a few mods, twin blow off valves, turbo timer, single exit exhaust, 17" rims (the main reason I brought it, they're lovely) and a speedo that reads up to 300mph!!!! Just had it fully serviced, cam belt and plugs etc, couple of dents fixed and the front tie bar bushes and centre prop bush replaced as well as a cat 1 alarm. A nice bill of 2,700 for my trouble, gulp.

My question is that it has a quick shift gear lever fitted which is quite difficult to get into gear. Is this normal because it is not an easy gear change. It's booked into SE Nissan at the end of the month so hopefully they will know but any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also would anyone recommend SE Nissan, seen them in a couple of articles so expectations are high. Cheers for any help.

I really really really ont want to tell you this....

I bought a TT Manual 91 Import 2 Weeks ago.

17" Inch HKS Blow Off

Red

It had a sticky gearshift - which changed to a nackered gearshift in a week. Twas the clutch. After stripdown it has a racing clutch and very strange flywheel = + £££ to replace.

I hope this is not what is wrong with yours. There is a load you can look at before the clutch itself. Search here check all the clutch mechanism and fluids etc.

I paid 4K and have spent 1K on maintenance in two weeks next will be an alarm.

This is just the pain before the gain....

We will end up with solid sorted motors....

Stick with it.......

Cheers

Gulp, er I hope it won't be costing that much to sort out, I shall keep you posted.

Cheers.

mine used to be sticky after an hour or so of driving, Redline MT90 transmission oil has made it a lot better.

Hello Mate,

I had a sticky gear change luckily for me it was only a slave cylinder £30!

Do a search on this forum for SE or silvia engineering, some people love them some people hate them!

Hello CC

I didnt want to post potential problems for you.

Just thought you might feel better knowing that anothe new owner has had to fork out straight away.

I hope you can sort your motor.

If (as it seems) like me you are prepared to get your car up to scratch then I think you will get the gain...after a initial pain of £££.

Mikes advice as well as slave cylinder are spot on.

Sticky means some problems with gear selection.

No necessarily the clutch.

Is it OK at first till you have been running a while ?

As this could indicated lubricant (I Think) linked to not performing as well at higher temp.

As advised search the forum and you will find a load of advice.

Check/Change your trans oil, the clutch fluid and the master slave cylinder op. If these sort your problem ...superb..

PS have you posted a picture of your car ?

Thanks for all the advice, hope it's not something serious as a suspect water leak has just turned out to be a big water leak and now I need a new radiator as well!!! The bill is now over three grande and rising. Gulp.

By the way, did anyone watch Top Gear the other Sunday when Clarkson was talking about the ZX, I use to like hime but now I know he hasn't got a clue what hes talking about.

Pictures of my car should be coming soon.
