Evening all,

O.K, so i've finally established that the bitch is now in PERMANENT safety boost, by disconnecting and reconnecting boost gauge for a more accurate reading (twas t-pieced with stock one) and it seems she is deffo only pushing 7psi - not the required 9 for pi$$ing of beemers and the like.

SO......what am I to do in order to rectify this, code 55 and all else o.k ??? Have done extensive search and so many different opinions/contradictions. Can anyone offer me a difinitive guide as to what needs to be done to return to 9.

Dont much fancy the resistor trick (not enough confidence) and still dont fully understand what causes it to happen, or why it happens, obviously grasp detting etc, but dont think its doing it, as got my brother to drive down my drive very slowly as i kind of sat on the bonnett with a steth on the lump, and no marbles???

I doubt your car will be in saftey boost with error 55.

You may not be in safety boost, you may jsut have a boost leak as suggested in your earlier thread.

I have a feeling that if you find the problem of the Hissing then you'll find the boost problem.

well if youve got code 55, all clear, then i doubt that the resistor will do anything anyway - its only of use if the det sensor is faulty.

have you checked all of hoses for any boost leak??

maybe check the engine temp sensor, just in case the ecu thinks its too cold all the time to give full boost

engine temp switch replaced last week as leccy fan was on all the time (just a small re-mortgage to buy it)

have looked extensively at all hoses for leak, and none found when idling, so if i have a boost leak within the bay somewhere, would this cause gauge to read EXACTLY 7psi all the time when boosting.

I think SMW1 may be correct in relation to my earlier thread, but that noise only happens when i turn her off after a run, and seems to be coming from front of bay i.,e radiatior area???

Have you ever had 9psi??? If not the car may have previously had a boost controller fitted and the stock solenoid valves disconnected. Now you need someone nearby who knows where the connections are and what they look like... erm.... On the passenger side, look around the engine dipstick area and you should see a square black connector - is that connected??? If it is, then this won't be your problem (or I doubt it), if its not, you need to reconnect it and then find the same connector on the drivers side ;)

PS One other thing, if the engine detects detonation it will put the car into safety boost until the next start. Have you tried a fresh batch of fuel???

HI ANDY,

just checked and connector is erm..connected, bummer eh!!

TBH i cant say whether i have ever had 9psi, but she feels slower, yes i know we all say that after a while, but she IS, u can just feel it, you know what i mean???

deffo only getting 7 and use approx £80 optimax per week in £20 shots from garage with high turnover of the black gold.

WHAT causes a zed to give 7 ALL the time??? its really doing my swede in now, deffo no boost leak???

Next thing is to either get a volmeter on the boost solenoid lines or a conzult/techtom to see if the ECU is telling them to open or not. This will tell you if the ECU is trying to put the car in safety boost or not. You could actually just disconnect those connectors and see if you still get 7psi ;) Thats the way I'd do it :) Disconnecting them basically puts the car into safety boost ;)

did you get to the bottom of your safety boost problem?

I seem to be experiencing similar. ECU has not errors and water temp sensor is very recent and connector has been cleaned. I'm yet to check for vacuum leaks but it's defo safety boost cus if I power off and then on at say a roundabout or summat, when I pull off, I'm back to full boost again. Atleast for a short while I am, then it's back down again.

Have hooked it up to a conzult but no obvious problems apparent. Any ideas anyone.

I'm currently running a JWT ECU, 15PSI' ish.

With a ConZult or Techtom you ought to be able to see the BSCV's come on at 60 deg C water temp - that would at least tell you that the ECU thinks that it's OK to raise boost above the standard 7psi and is trying to do it.

I had a couple of boost leaks coming off the balance bar at the rear of the engine. Gave a very distinctive hiss immediately the engine was turned off for about a second. Reckon your hiss is definately worth pursuing.

Recently had one of the small hoses (under drivers side throttle body) blow off every time I put my foot down and hit high boost - cable tied down now :D, very easy to miss these when disconnected. One of Vijay's boost leak dummy's is a good investment and easy to use...

Cheers!

This hiss that you talk about, I have always had a hiss come from under the hood when I turn off but I have only just started having problems.

Does anyone else get a short hiss when they turn off thier engines?

You can sometimes hear the fuel pump continue running for a second when you shut the engine off....

Hmm...just a thought - try pulling one of the small hoses off the balance bar as a test, start/stop your car - if you don't get a different/additional noise/hiss from the engine bay you've prob got a boost leak :)

Don't forget to reconnect!!
