Rear Ball Joint (rear wheel steer)...help!

I have to replace the OSR ball joint (end of the steering rack) and I have having a real problem getting the old one out....I have tried the old hammer, heat and various other tools!!! I have stopped short of actually taking the whole hub off the car to get the space to work on it!!!

Has anyone ever replaced one of these? any tips that may help to get this thing out (been doing it every night after work all week and most of the weekend and it hasn't moved!!!)

Apparently there is a tool for this, but assuming you haven't got it (!) then heating it up can work, failing that then drop the wishbone off!

Paul C says this is easy - but I'm still not sure we're talking about the same part!

Haven't had any success finding the tool.....bought splitters, pullers and Nissan aren't much help either (apparently they don't sell tools)!!!!

Looking at it even droping the rear wishbone won't help its the shock and CV joing that is preventing the space for a good whack with a hammer!!!!

Paul C....are we talking about the same part here?

James,

Thanks for the link to that thread.....If I am following his description correctly then the part I am replacing if the other end. I have stripped the end of the HICAS system and bought the new parts for that.....now I have the ball joint in the hub at the end of the steering (far left hand side of the pic).

are we talking the same part here?

ahhhh, so thats why you said it was a git James!!

yes, a little confusion here - in that previous thread i was reffering to the Hicas link arm - the part that actually screws into the Hicas rack!

it seems Dave (and you) are talking about the bush/ball joint that is pressed into the hub!!

I would guess its a hub off & press out job. not actually done this job myself tho
