Hi folks, think there may be a 'problem' with the zed, and looking for opinions??

Have noticed last few weeks that when i have no music on, and turn the car off, I immediatly hear what I can only describe as a very subtle ''whooshhhhhhup'' very similiar to a bottle of pop being opened. Only noticed it because I am now garaging the car at night and it is more audiable??

So, is this the norm for the zed (havn't noticed before) and what if anything shall i do to check if it is a problem, code55 and all o.k at the moment with her, i.e, boosting nice, nice idle etc.etc.

fanx

It could be a boost leak somewhere, and what you are hearing is more a suck noise into a vacume hose.

Can you perform a boost leak test some how?

Stuart

$hit SRRAE, lightning fast!!!

Willing to perform anything if i know how, how would I perform said test, heard a while ago about a can of spam or something in your ear with an enema tube attached~????

Yep thats the best way ;)

See what other people say first, but is sounds like a boost leak to me. But what do I know ;)

Stuart

so who can you recall made the contraption to test for this??

okey dokey, but how did u do it, i would really like to know so i can have a go myself, or am i just being thick

No. Its fairly easy to do. Do you have a compressor or foot pump?

i have foot pump, and one of those cheapo jobbies (12v) for tyres

I think that cheapy thing will be good enough. YOu only need about 5-7psi to find leaks.

I am trying to make a better version of the bean can thing. I will post up if I succeed.

Stuart

if interested I have a local company making one up that will fit in where the AFM goes. I'll post a pic when they've done it.

Vijay

You can get one from the states but it's quite expensive for what it actually is.

fanx for response folks,

I went thru a stage of checking for leaks every weekend, even with a proper compressor i could hardly build any pressure!

If you need a hand i'm just up in Salisbury.

You need to make sure the seal where you attach what ever to the engine is good.

Dave and I did it with a Bean tin and a Cat Food tin ;)

I think I understand the concept of what your pointing towards, forcing air through something, but I am SURE someone posted ages ago that they stood in the street with a can and hose 'listening' to the lump, and the can amplified the leak over normal engine noise???

Done a search but nowt??

TBH dont think im confident enough to start pushing compressed air through the engine bay, I have had a look around at all visible hoses and all seem o.k. Went for short poodle just now and as its early & quiet, opened bonnet and let the turbo timer switch her off as I stood over lump, and SRRAE is right, more of a sucking than a hissing???

Buggered if I can pinpoint it in the millisecond she farts at me though.

Oh - sorry.....Robtor, fanx for offer, if I cant do it, will take you up on the offer, many thanks....

So the noise is from the engine rather than the back of the car ?. I'm thinking that it could be fuel pressure if it is not the boost hoses.

Sounds strange that you can hear it quite clearly but then you say that you are still running boost without a drop.

It could also be a water seal somewhere. Do the car make this noise when it is cold or jut whne it had gone for a bit of a run ?.
