Handbrake

Hi all,

bit of help required, and this seemed the natual place to come!!

I've got a 91 TT auto. At the weekend i left the ignition on (engine not running) for about 3 minutes whilst i did the passenger side leccy window up, and polished it.

Ever since, i cannot turn the engine off without the handbrake being in the down possition!! If its up, i can take the key out with the engine still running. If i do this (ie take the key out whilst its running) a beeping noise comes from under the dash until i lower the h/brake and the engine will switch off.

Wierd i know...........any ideas??

(Just to mention it, when i got in the car the following morning, the stereo was on flat out and i copuldn't turn it down. i had to fumble about and turn it off by the remote. I'll try to reset it tonight when my nerves are back to normal).

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Sounds like a turbo timer is keeping everything running - although can't see how it would do it forever - maybe it needs reseting - just disconnect the battery for 30mins :)

Andy,

thanks for that. it did cross my mind to disconnect the battery, but i thought the ECU might have to relearn 'stuff' again. It has got a timer but its not connected (for sure).

I'll disconnect the battery for 30 mins tonight.

Many thanks for the quick response.
