The brakes on my car squeal loudly under light pressure.

Is this due to the type of pads fitted?

Any help and advice appreciated.

All the best.

Martin.

Check out how much of the pads are left. They may need changing.

If it's not worn pads or lipped discs it's probably just brake dust. Take the wheel off, and the pads out, give the caliper, disc and pads a wipe down and use some copper ease on the back of the pads (Obvious don't put this on the contact side DOH !!!).

Some types of pads have wear indicators that are pieces of sprung metal that scrape on the disk and vibrate/squeal once the pads are getting too low. Check to see if your pads are that type.

If it's just normal brake squeal then it can usually be cured by a) making sure the two shims are fitted on the backs of the pads and b) putting a smear of coppaslip on the backs of the pads, shims and piston face.

There's plenty of life left in the pads so I guess it must just be a build-up of brake dust.

Cheers.

Make sure you have the brake shim kits fittted correctly. After time parts can fall out. You can buy a new set from nissan for not too much dosh (from the states!).
