A while ago I ordered some new rubber mouldings for around the windows, because mine are shagged. To get 'the full set', I had to order two new rear windows into the bargain, because the rubber and window come as one. This is the first time I've ordered parts from the US (Courtesy Parts) so fell free to call me niave...

 

..anyway, I get the Parcel Force card yesterday, telling me there's a charge??? I ring them up, and they tell me that the f**king c**ts at Customs & Excise have slapped a 117 quid charge on top, for what basically amounts to a few bits of rubber & glass, LIKE I DIDN'T PAY ENOUGH FOR THEM TO START WITH!!!!! (nearly 500 quid).

 

Apparently, EVERYTHING over 18 quid is taxed when it comes in, however she changed that when I said i'd ordered 40 quid books from the US before.

 

I got taxed twice, for christ's sake!! import tax AND vat, FFS!!!

 

Like I said, call me niave, because you guys probably knew all this already, but jesus....what the f**k is this country coming to??

 

I don't think the woman I spoke to was massively impressed either, when I said that I'm suprised they don't tax me when I take a banging shite.

I remember seeing a figure for calculating just how little spending money you actually earn in a year, something less than a quarter of what you think you earn, if I remember right !

 

After income tax, VAT, savings tax, NI contributions, petrol tax, road tax, pension tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax, import duties, insurance tax, airport tax, tv licence etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc !! :mad:

 

Means you're working for sod all basically !

 

And in case you want to work a little harder and make more money, they tax you at your maximum rate for any overtime :eek: :mad: :mad:

ive heard that they are going to stop the tax levy they have on lpg soon too.

so all those people who spent upwards of a grand converting their car to take, thinking they would get that money back and more in fuel savings.. not any more

 

lpg to be the same price as petrol v soon, because of tax, not increased manufacturing costs.

but youre right, if you calculated roughly all tax you pay each month, right from road tax, to petrol taxing, to the tax on your mars bar or apple, it would be too much to take without bursting into tears.

however, if everyone became self employed (like me!!) paying £9 per month national insurance and a yearly tax bill of about £50, then they'd be stuck!!!!

Grrr....don't start me on that self employed bit either! I'm a self employed IT contractor, fully within the ludicrous law that is IR35. I'm sure at least some of you will know what that's all about.

Who mentioned soap boxes. I am a fairly placid, laid-back kinda geezer but .....

I am also self-employed and have the nightmare of PAYE for my guys, myself and v.a.t. I have yet to find a form that I can look at and fill in without it referring to some other form (which they never send) or which seems not to be written in the common form of english that even a well-educated professor of english would understand!

 

Not to mention fuel tax, speed cameras, speed traps, parking fines, congestion charge and all the other sneaky "stealth" taxes the money-grubbing, self-serving politicians and Public Servants (HAH!!) foist on us.

 

Oh, my retention slip and the DVLA... No I won't go there it hurts too much.
