Can you help me with the following please. I have had my nissan 300zx (non- turbo) since Jan 2003 - 1991 plate and im experiencing a few problems.

The automatic gearbox is loosing traction when im at or above 100 mph and the power light is flashing on. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Not too sure Keith............just getting your 1st post BTT.

Does the POWER light go off again when you drop under 100 mph? And its NEVER come on without the car losing traction at the same time?

i think i spoke to you at JAPS on sunday, try the autobox diag on this link autodiags

this may show up any electrical faults but not mechanical ones.

u say this happened after u had it delimited, check all the connections to make sure there good.

:( Hi James,

Yes the power light stops flashing when i drop under 100mph. I have noticed tho - that i does flick on under hard acceleration, then once i start slowing down, its goes off again!!! Its giving me a headache to be honest an i got no confidence in it!

Thinking about getting it changed to a manual - what do u think?

I also think i have a leak in my water pump - brill eh??

Keith

Ay up Beermonster,

Nice meeting u on sunday - some nice cars there eh?

When i got back on sunday - i noticed that i have got a water and an oil leak!! Think the oil is nothing serious but i think the water pump is knackered.

Ref - autogearbox - givin me a flippin headache! out working on it again last night. will check diag site - cheers mate

Keith

That is normal operation.

Check the fluid level, make sure it's clean and doesn't smell burnt, then as someone else said do the autobox diag.

And are you sure you're not just hitting the speed limitter? How would you describe losing traction???

CheerZ,

Andy

Yeah it's obviously an import non-turbo so you probably still have the speed restrictor at about 112mph? (I think)

The auto box goes into power mode by itself if you boot it and also turns off the aircon compressor to give you a bit more power.

Complicated things these Z's ;)

from speaking to keith he said hed had a delimiter fitted, the best way to describe his problem is its like dipping the clutch on a manual, the revs just keep rising but no power thru transmission. could it be torqe converter maybe

That sounds like the clutch packs are on their way out :S

Happened to mine under hard acceleration in 3rd then got worse and started to do it in 2nd until eventually 3rd was like neutral and I could only use 2nd at low power.

If thats it then it's rebuild time :(
