My minds a whirl, i'm looking to up the boost on my 91tt to around 12.5. Now i've been told i need do nothing to the standard chip as it will cope with the extra boost. if thats so how can i see if i've been speed de restricted without thrashing it down the dual carrigway or reving the b***x off it in the drive to check the rev limiter

anyone help

oh yes i'll be in touch smithy about them stainless pipes, putting all me change in a pot !

Stock ECU should cope with 12.5psi boost, just listen out for detonation!!!!

I don't think you can, the speed limiter is driven from the vehicle speed sensor ie not revs based. Sorry!

Erm....yeah the chip will cope - the engine might not. Just upping the boost isnt a good idea without having some kind of boost meter to monitor it and having a chip that remaps the fuelling.

As for checking the rev limiter and the top speed - without having a new chip in the ECU this wont have changed. as its the ECU that controls this lot. Unless someones re-programmed the original chip you have.

Do a search on chips - theres loads of posts on here about them.

Get yerself an accurate boost gauge before you fiddle with stuff like this !

The std chip will cope fine with 12.5psi and you'll notice a significant improvement in performance. However, you may need to tweak the timing a bit to ensure there's no detting and if the car is an import then you need to be pretty careful about the type of fuel you use - Optimax is favourite.

yow

cheers for all the advice

as for the de-limiting stuff, i thought you could be de-restricted from the speedo - maybe not! anyway gonna have it checked by the pros, don;t want to blow it up wheni 've only just got it

Cheers again
